Happy New Year everyone! Today we’d like to introduce you to Nine Lamb Farm, the name we have decided to bestow our family farm and, with it, carry forward our vision for Post & Beam. Swipe through the photos above to glimpse into the design process of and enjoy the divergent aesthetics behind Nine Lamb Farm.
So, why Nine Lamb Farm? Well, this past spring when we first began to launch Post & Beam, our sheep gave birth to 9 lambs -- more than ever before. Little did we know then, but this omen of new life and abundance would ultimately inspire our next steps as we let Post & Beam go.
However, Nine Lamb Farm is not just the product of a good year for our sheep, it is the outcome of the collaboration between Luke & Seth Bateman and its name, alongside , outlines our identity as we embark on the shared stewardship of our land and the intention to bring forth sustainable bounty through which we can support the community.
Furthermore, while South Dominion Vineyard stands to represent our heritage, the initial vision of our parents, and a more traditional take on wine; Nine Lamb Farm exists in part to reflect that vision while intersecting the realms of art, design, agriculture, and community so as to carry us forward into new life and a shared abundance born out of patience and forgiveness.
As we move into 2021, we ask you to join us on this adventure and become a part of our story as we grow and evolve, to help us use our platform to support those around us, and to join in as we add our own touch of creativity (as well as many creative aesthetics) to the world of wine, community, and placemaking.
As for Post & Beam, our first vintage will now serve to commemorate the building of our winery, and the sometimes shaky start to which new adventures get off to. The label is now a one-off, so maybe hang on to it in case it’s worth something one day 😏
Until then, Happy New Year and keep your eyes peeled as we begin to unveil more of what’s to come with and stay safe as we ravage the storm — each in our own way and also as a collective in the face of great uncertainty and another 365 days around the sun ☀️

And the story continues… join us tomorrow for the launch of our new name and read on to discover what has led to this change.
After lots of work and creative thinking, the day finally came for us to sell our first bottle. Thanks to the market created by , and the friendly competition from our peers , we had done just that in the early morning light of Aug. 1st, 2020.
While it was exciting to begin the next phase of releasing a product (selling it), we held back from publishing much about our launch. For some reason, intuition perhaps -- but also a little bit of exhaustion, it just didn’t seem like the right time to start putting our brand out there for the world to see. As it turned out, this would ultimately be a good thing.
About 2 months after we started selling, we noticed a listing for a Post & Beam wine with no label on the internet, shortly after we received a voice message from someone representing Far Niente Cellars. It turns out we were not the only winery who loved their post and beam barns so much they decided to name themselves after them.
, a new brand being launched by the renowned Napa Valley winemakers, , had filed a trademark application for under Post & Beam in early February and was just starting to launch their brand.
Crazy enough, we had actually visited one of their wineries, , in 2016. Alas, neither of us were aware of the others anticipated launch or of our shared love for post and beam barns, so we began a dialogue and, although our family held this name dear, it was clear our best option was to work together. 2020 had brought enough surprises and making a friend seemed like the right path forward :)
So began the next phase of our family endeavor, and the envisioning of an entirely new brand to replace what had been for us. As with our wines, almost nothing is without reason and tomorrow, we will reveal that which will become our namesake for the coming years!

Hello everyone and happy almost new year! You may be wondering why we changed our name slightly and haven’t posted since launching at the beginning of the year. Long story short, we are rebranding due to some unforeseen challenges and will be launching our new brand with the start of the new year. Read on if you’re interested in our story and over the next few days, we will unveil what has led to this change for our small farm winery.
4 years ago, at the end of their service to the US military, our parents began to wonder what they would do in their retirement. After many ideas and lots of soul searching, they settled on the idea of making wine. So, together we planted approximately 1,200 vines on a small field just above our sheep pasture and from 2016 to 2019 we carefully cultivated them, dived into winemaking, and planned our business launch.
Over the summer of 2019, we work with our aunt to design our heritage wine brand, and with friends and family, we constructed a 20’x30’ post and beam barn to house the winery and eventually serve as a tasting room and bottling facility.
We were beginning to hammer down the logistics of packaging our first vintage when we decided that to better represent our family, we would introduce a second, more contemporary brand alongside South Dominion that sought to develop a more natural style of wine. And so, after much deliberation at the start of 2020, was born.
Designed by , the name was prompted by our winery building and inspired by his travels across Europe the previous year researching biodynamic and natural winemaking.
However, what had intended to be a grand launch, was stymied by the unexpected and sudden spread of COVID-19. A great deal of uncertainty lay ahead and although we had begun to sell and , we were not sure what our next steps were. We had started making wine thinking about our little part of the world in one way and had been forced to reconsider it in a whole new light. Little did we know, an entirely different event would change our plans even further.
Tune in tomorrow as the story continues!
