As burnout becomes an even more heightened discussion, I found myself reflecting on why this can be hard to recognize. What came forward…
Burnout can be especially hard to recognize if you:
Value grit, tenacity, and doing hard things.
Were raised to tough it out and pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
Have learned to detach from your emotions, your heart, and even from yourself.
Are navigating societal expectations that discourage emotional expression and limit safe spaces for real, vulnerable conversations.
Burnout manifests in various ways, from physical symptoms like fatigue and insomnia to emotional signs such as apathy, irritability, and a sense of detachment from the things that once brought you joy.
Acknowledging its presence, even when you think you're doing everything right, is the first step.
It’s a reminder that being proactive about your mental health and well-being is not just about maintaining good habits, but also about recognizing when those habits are no longer enough.
What has worked for you?
