This summer, Agency was joined by four amazing interns: Quinn Adam, Kendal Eastwood, Hayden Germanis, and Jaewoo Kang. Each of them worked on numerous projects, ranging from crafting engagement and marketing materials to creating axons and renderings. They also got the opportunity to go on site visits and participate in community engagement events. Through the Boston Society of Landscape Architects, they were able to meet interns from other firms and explore projects throughout the Boston area.

Quinn Adam is a landscape design intern and an interdisciplinary designer from Colorado, currently pursuing a Master of Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.

Hayden Germanis is a landscape design intern from Florida and recent graduate of University of Florida Bachelors of Landscape Architecture program.

Kendal Eastwood is an urban planning intern and designer from North Carolina, currently pursuing a Master in Urban Planning at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Jaewoo Kang is a landscape design intern from South Korea, currently pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture at University of Virginia.

We are grateful to have gotten the opportunity to watch them grow, not only as people, but as designers and planners too. While we are sad to see them go, once an agent, always an agent!

We are thrilled that Parrott Creek is being recognized, along with the project team: Adre (development lead), El Dorado (architect), and Walsh Construction. Agency led the landscape design for this multi-phase expansion development.

We are excited to welcome Kevin Hartzell to the team!

Kevin Hartzell is a registered landscape architect and Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (SER) with over 20 years of design and construction experience. His work spans environmental permitting, design and construction professions across scales and project types. He especially enjoys focusing his efforts on fine detailing of construction documentation, project management, and the physical realization of projects. Kevin has also spent time as a local conservation commissioner, a visiting lecturer at UMASS Amherst, and in an adult education program in horticulture at Franklin County Technical School.

Landscape Architecture Magazine highlights New York State Canals 2050!

“New Visions for the Erie Canal” features in the May edition of the American Society of Landscape Architects’s monthly magazine. With a focus on the sensitive history of the canals, LAM editor Timothy A. Schuler emphasizes the unequaled opportunities brought about by a project 338-miles long, through quotes from Agency’s Rhiannon Sinclair and NYS Canal Corporation’s Justine Heilner.

“I think leadership saw [the new long-term plan] as a really important opportunity to reconnect with people and reset expectations about their relationship to the canals,” says Sinclair, referring to Agency’s year-long process to refresh the Canal Recreationway Plan. Built upon its predecessor, the new plan articulates a clear vision for the system as “a vibrant throughline of canals, parks, and trails for New York State”, supported by a set of guiding principles, strategies, and actions that lay out a path to achieving the goal.

“Many of the plan’s recommendations acknowledge the dual nature of the canal system’s scale,” writes Schuler, “It’s an enormous piece of infrastructure to maintain that also connects communities to nature and to one another, offering unequaled opportunities for recreational and cultural linkages”.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) honored Agency Landscape + Planning, Sweet Sparkman Architects, its design team, and the Bay Park Conservancy with a 2026 Regional & Urban Design Award for The Bay “One Park for All”! Agency’s Gina and Sweet Sparkman’s Karl Bernhard were in San Diego last night to celebrate and accept the award.

Since opening in October 2022, over ONE MILLION guests visited the first phase of the park with a 97% return rate. The Bay features wide promenades, coastal walkways, and generous lawns. The combination of promenades, boardwalks, and shaded areas fosters inclusive use. Thriving through three major weather events — the Bay withstood a direct hit from Hurricane Milton, an early test of the design’s resiliency. The Bay is a living demonstration of 21st century sustainability principles, a memorable community gateway, and a loving reflection of Sarasota’s unique natural and cultural context.

Spring has sprung at Lowell’s Saint Louis Sponge Park! On April 25th, community members and partners joined the Spring Gathering to celebrate the changing season and future improvements.

The Mayor declared April 25th to be Arbor Day in Lowell, complete with a ceremonial tree planting. Community members learned hands-on about stewardship by planting 12 trees and dozens of native grass plugs with Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust and Mill City Grows. Families experienced the story of Five Busy Beavers in the story walk led by Pollard Memorial Library, enjoyed donuts, and repped their park with temporary tattoos!

The team includes the City of Lowell, MA - Government, Rist Institute for Sustainability & Energy at UMass Lowell, CHA Consulting, Inc, Nitsch Engineering, HLB Lighting Design, Tetra Tech, Studio Ummo, and Moffatt & Nichol.
