A little look at what I’m checking when I climb into a window well 🧐🏡🔎

Beyond making sure there’s a safe way out, I’m looking at things like drainage, the gravel below, and whether that ladder is actually secure.

You don’t see many rolled asphalt roofs anymore 🏡🔎

When I do come across one, these are typically the things I’m looking at during an inspection - signs of aging like alligatoring, raised areas that could be prone to leaking, and the condition of the flashing around the skylight

Boston Brick Building Inspection — Part 2 🧱

When it comes to an older brick building, stronger isn’t always better.

The mortar is designed to be the sacrificial part of the system — which is why using the correct mortar when repointing matters so much. The wrong material can actually contribute to deterioration of the brick or foundation you’re trying to protect.

A small detail above your windows can turn into a much bigger masonry repair when it’s left unchecked.

These steel lintels are in good shape, but that’s not always the case — especially on buildings that have gone years without much exterior maintenance.
