Anemia is a major global health challenge, and iron deficiency is its most common nutritional cause. It disproportionately affects women and children worldwide.

For many people, symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath can have a meaningful impact on daily life.

The impact can extend beyond low iron levels.

In children, iron deficiency anemia can affect cognitive and physical development. In adults, it can reduce physical capacity and add to the burden of an underlying condition.

When blood loss continues, restoring iron stores can be more difficult. Addressing iron deficiency may require both iron replacement and attention to the underlying cause of blood loss.

At Hemab, we believe that reducing bleeding is an important part of addressing the broader burden it can create.

On National Patient Advocacy Day, we recognize the power of patient and community voices to shape a better future for people living with bleeding disorders.

The bleeding-disorders community has a strong history of advocacy—helping advance access to specialized centers, strengthen patient protections, and support care across every stage of life.

Today, that work continues. For people affected by rare and underserved coagulation disorders, advocacy helps ensure lived experiences shape the community, patient reported outcomes, conversations about access to care, and research priorities.

Fatigue can become so familiar that it no longer feels like a symptom.

Quinn’s story in Episode 2 of BloodStream Media’s The Bleeding Edge speaks to what can happen when symptoms become part of everyday life. The burden of Glanzmann thrombasthenia (GT) is not limited to a single bleed. It can include gradual iron loss, interrupted sleep, heavy menstrual bleeding, and the many adjustments patients and families make around work, school, and daily life.

Patients and families are the experts in these experiences. Their stories help make visible what can happen between bleeds and deepen our understanding of what support can look like.

The Hemab team will be at the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation's Annual Bleeding Disorders Conference this weekend, August 13-15.

Our work begins by listening to people living with underserved bleeding disorders.

Through our “360” natural history research in Glanzmann thrombasthenia, Factor VII deficiency, and Von Willebrand disease, patients, caregivers, and community partners have shared insights that help inform our research and clinical trials.

Most recently, we introduced HMB-003, an investigational antifibrinolytic therapy in development for heavy menstrual bleeding.

Our most recent scientific meeting at the 2026 International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Congress marked a major inflection point for Hemab.

With 9 total data presentations complete, we are officially stepping into a new era as a multi-program company building a portfolio across several coagulation disorders: sutacimig, a Phase 3-ready program in Glanzmann thrombasthenia; HMB-002, a novel antibody that raises endogenous Von Willebrand Factor and Factor VIII in Von Willebrand disease; and HMB-003, a novel antifibrinolytic built on validated fatty-acid conjugated peptide technology.
