An unbelievable last few days in the shop!

Got so much out of this class… Learned a TON of new techniques, color, layering, detail work, epoxy, glossing, and just a completely different way of looking at the painting process.

Can’t thank Jimmy enough for opening up his shop and sharing his knowledge with me. Now I’m ready to get back in my own shop and start putting it all to work!

Headed to Iowa to spend a few days with Jimmy Lawrence, painting a largemouth bass and bluegill replica from start to finish.

Everything I’ve learned about fish taxidermy up to this point has been self-taught. A lot of trial and error, studying reference photos, practicing, and figuring things out along the way.

Jimmy is a national award winning taxidermist, multiple time State Champion, and has spent years competing and judging. His fish work is some of the best out there so I’m excited to have the opportunity to learn from him firsthand.

I can’t wait to bring some new techniques back to Roth Taxidermy and keep pushing it to the next level.

These two blanks will look a whole lot different in a couple days. Stay tuned!

Another walleye headed home! 🎣

Walleye are one of our favorites to work on. There’s so much detail in the scales, fins, and natural coloring that really comes together once you get to the final paint and gloss.

A big thank you to Josh and Casey for trusting us with this project. Replicas are a great way to preserve the memory of a special catch while giving someone else the opportunity to catch their personal best.

Pretty cool moment for Roth Taxidermy - we just received our first-ever fish shipped to us!

Outside of the local counties, we’ve had fish brought from Toledo, Saginaw Bay, Grand Rapids, Fort Wayne, and now Kentucky. It’s pretty awesome seeing people trust us with their catches when they have so many options of where they could go. Very excited to keep watching this grow and seeing what it can turn into. This is only the first of many.

Also, for everyone with current fish on order — we just received a large shipment of forms and replicas and are going to start knocking mounts out quickly. We really appreciate everyone’s patience, and we’ll be in touch soon!
