‼️URGENT‼️

RITNER (ACCT-A-244739) is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. RITNER must have confirmed placement with a foster, adopter, or rescue partner by Thursday, 4/2 AT 10AM. Should his medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
RITNER IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, OR RESCUE PLACEMENT.
Ritner came to ACCT Philly as a stray, found alone but in good condition. With no owner coming forward, he’s been patiently waiting in the shelter for someone to see what a truly gentle and easygoing companion he is.
Since arriving, Ritner has consistently shown himself to be a calm, affectionate, and well-mannered dog. He greets people with a soft body and relaxed demeanor, comes right up to say hello, and walks beautifully on leash without pulling. Ritner already knows “sit,” loves treats (sometimes a little enthusiastically!), and enjoys simple pleasures like butt scratches and chasing squeaky toys. He has done well with handling, remains calm even with new people, and settles easily back into his kennel. In playgroup, Ritner has shown he can coexist with other dogs, greeting politely and respecting corrections, though he may feel more comfortable with slower introductions and calmer playmates.
Overall, he is a steady, sweet boy who would thrive in a home that offers a predictable routine and continued enrichment.
Behavioral Notes
03/23/2026
Per staff: Easy to leash, came right to the front. Walked nicely on the leash, no pulling Yes, handled the dog, very calm and relaxed. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue
03/15/2026 per staff:
Kennel Presentation: He greeted me calmly at the front of his kennel and slightly dodged the leash when I went to leash him, then allowed me to easily leash.
Leash Skills: He walks calmly and slowly on leash without much pulling.
Sociability: When we got outside, he did a very incredibly long p*e and a p**p so may possibly be house trained if he was holding it in the kennel. In the play yard he was a pretty calm boy but got a little bit more playful. He loves treats and can be a little eager when grabbing them from my hand. He showed me that he knew how to sit and didn’t seem to know any other commands. He took pets from me all over and seemed to really butt scratches. Was fine with new handlers at the photo shoot and remained very calm and patient.
Play: He liked to chase after squeaky toys and sometimes brought them back. Seemed to be OK with me approaching him with the toy.
Dog Interaction: nothing today
Return to Kennel: Went back into his kennel super easily with her leash.
Color Level: Gave gold as a color because of how easy he is, and could see him going down to Green if behavior continues like this.
Playgroup 3/14:
Steerable with water and shake can 5/5. Slow entry into yard, accepted greetings from Giuseppe, staying very still for them. Came up & sniffed Giuseppe in return shortly after. Slowly started loosening up, occasionally breaking out into a loping jog around the yard. Was corrected by Airport for space, which he heard and respected. Removed soon afterward due to appearing uncomfortable and stiff, and to ensure the yard would be a good fit for incoming dogs
03/09/2026 staff
Came to the front of his kennel when I called to him, slightly wide eyes, loose body, tail low, ears to the side. Took a meatball gently through the bars.
