Just Call Damon

Just Call Damon FB doesn't allow me to post to this page without their cellphone spy-app, so this page is now silent. Computer problems? No Fakebook required.

Just Call Damon, I'll come to you and get you fixed right up. (719) 239-1750 As Seen In The Shopper Every Week! White-glove service, Hometown Courtesy. Liberty-based, Veteran-Owned. By appointment only.

Why choose Damon?

First, because I come to you - and not just as a courtesy. If I am diagnosing a computer, it is very helpful to do it in-place, because who knows if the problem was the printer or ethernet cable you unplugged to bring it to a shop? Save yourself the lugging and unplugging.

Second, experience. I've been doing this professionally starting in Silicon Valley since the mid-90s, and since I was 12 with TRS-80s in 1980. I know computers on a deep, nuts-and-bolts level, so I can solve most problems *very quickly.

Third, value. Bang for the buck. I can solve problems faster than most people can crack the case open! And I can usually find more affordabale ways to make things better, instead of spending top-dollar for new systems every time something goes wrong.

My name is Damon Bass, and I am a life-long professional tech geek. I've got a house to pay off, and we love this place, so I'm not going anywhere! 😁

Show me *anyone else doing this....

One reason I use Mozilla Firefox instead of Chrome or Edge or any of the other versions of Chrome out there (they are *all Chrome variants except Firefox), is that there's much more choice and freedom with open-source Firefox than with advertisers-preferred proprietary Chrome variants. Google even removed the ability to install Web's Best Ad Blocker - uBlock Origin - into Chrome because their advertisers complained it blocked too many of their ads! :-\

With many advertising-driven companies such as Google and the other big players, you're not the customer - you're the product.

Firefox is and has been my #1 recommendation for a browser, for a few reasons.
1) It's one of the very few browsers that *isn't a variant of Google Chrome.
2) You can install ANY plugin you like, including the Google-banned "uBlock Origin", the best and most popular ad-blocker of the last 15 years. (Google's advertisers *demand to be seen!)
3) Google only cares about it's advertisers. For Google, you aren't the customer, you are the PRODUCT.

An excellent reminder of something we learned very quickly not to do in the 90s.

Chilling and thought-provoking. Thanks Ireland!

This looks like a scene from Black Mirror, but it's actually a stark warning from Ireland's Data Protection Commission:

I apparently have not been getting all of my voicemails with Consumer Cellular, so I am changing services - again. Sorry for any inconvenience.

That thing 'cloud' companies say isn't going to happen - is happening already.

Remember when Google's motto was "Don't Be Evil"?
Yeah, they got rid of that years ago....

I had a call from a scammer the other day! 😉

Me: “Hello.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Hello. This is Bob Bobson from Microsoft Support. We are seeing a lot of virus activity from your device.”
Me: “Oh no. My device? Are you sure?”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Oh yes, we have many reports.”
Me: “Oh jeez. How can I fix it?”
NOT-Microsoft support: “It’s okay Sir. We can help you right now. Are you in front of your device Sir?”
Me: “Yes. I was just about to use it. I’m glad you called.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Yes Sir, we are going to help you. Can you please push the Start button?”
Me: “I think it’s already on.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Okay, Sir. Now you want to click on Control Panel.”
Me: “I don’t see that.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Do you see a bunch of information above the Start button?”
Me: “Yes.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “That is your Control Panel.”
Me: “Wow, I didn’t realise it had a name.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Yes Sir, now press on Internet Options.”
Me: “Yeah, I definitely don’t see any Internet options. I don’t think I purchased that feature. This is just a cheap one.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “They all have the Internet, Sir. Press the Start button again.”
Me: “Okay, it’s the same as before.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “That’s okay Sir. We are going to restart your device. Can you please turn it off?”
Me: “Um … I don’t know how. I’ve never turned it off. Since I bought it, it just kind of stays on all the time.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “There must be an off button on your device. How do you stop it when it’s running?”
Me: “In those cases, I usually press the big button.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Okay sir. Please press that button.”
Me: “Okay.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Is your device off?”
Me: “No. The door popped open.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Door? Is there a disc inside the door?”
Me: “No, there’s a burrito.”
NOT-Microsoft support: “Why is there a burrito in your computer?”
Me: “Computer? I thought you said this was microwave support.”
