Hello family and friends. My surgery went well. I am still very sore with some discomfort, I am moving around like a turtle or a sloth at times, but I am doing okay! Shout out to my hubby who turned into an immediate nurse for me, helping me with my drains, and other things that would seem simple to do like showering and putting on pajamas comes with its own set of challenges. I feel all of the love and support from everyone through your calls, prayers, support, your gifts, your time, and your contributions. To add another layer of good news - my surgeon called with my full pathology report from the 2 lymph nodes and breast tissue that were removed - I am happy to report that there were NO MORE TRACES of cancer found. Praise God!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽💕💕
When I started this journey, I was ok with getting a ‘lumpectomy’ where they would remove a ‘portion’ of the breast tissue where the cancer was found. But after going through 16 rounds of chemo and seeing life from a different perspective, I decided to go with the double mastectomy. I don't want to go through this again - if I can help it. I was told that there is always a chance of the cancer coming back once you have it - BUT I reduce the chances of it returning significantly with a double mastectomy. From 30% (with a lumpectomy) to the single digits 3-5% (with a double mastectomy). I want to sleep at night knowing that I did everything I could have done.
S**t them old ti***es has got to GO! Bless me with new ones!
What's next—rehab from chemo, surgery and reconstruction. I have a bit more to go, but all is bright! I will likely still need immunotherapy to rebuild my system. My oncology team will help us navigate the next steps. I don't need radiation (praise God!), so the second phase of my reconstruction will be sooner rather than later! Watch out, world - RBW is coming back! I appreciate all of your love, support, and prayers. There is POWER in prayer, faith, and love! These are still appreciated even more so today as I am recovering. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
