Critical update information, prior STCW endorsements expiring in 2016

For those merchant mariners who have been “endorsed” under the CG-CVC Policy Letter NO. 12-06 policy letter of 2012, under documentation attesting to one of the following 1)six months in the preceding three years at a designated security duty 2)six months in the preceding three years at shipboard designated security functions or 3)successful completion of a USCG approved training course will by or before January 1, 2017 need to complete an STCW training conducted by an approved USCG course provider. Completion of the STCW course will be necessary to have MMC endorsements validated. International Maritime Security Network (IMSN) has now been approved by the Maritime Administration to provide Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act 2010 (CVSSA ) training in accordance to Model Course CVSSA 11-01. CVSSA requires passenger vessels to implement various regulations to promote safety and security. New requirements include technology for detecting falls overboard, recording evidence of possible crimes, hailing devices, security guides, peep holes in doors, sexual assault training, mandated crime statistics reporting and crime scene preservation training. The new law strives to make a safer environment for millions of cruise ship passengers who vacation on the high seas.
