The Champion Forum Podcast by Jeff Hancher A podcast on all things leadership and creating a champion mindset.

One of my favorite parts of the JHE Executive Forum is creating experiences that challenge how we think as leaders.

This one is going to be special.

Successful leaders are willing to let things burn to make progress.

They don't get too attached to their ideas or systems. They understand that if they want innovation, they have to be willing to be disruptive, and that if they are unwilling to be disruptive, they will kill innovation.

It was such an honor to have Dov Baron on to talk about his new book, The Art of Belonging, how conformity silences creativity, and what it really takes to build a workplace where people do not just perform, but belong. Tune in to this week's episode of The Champion Forum Podcast to hear the full conversation!

I cannot believe it has been one year since Firm Feedback in a Fragile World was released.

This time last year, I was making calls, sending texts, writing emails, and doing everything I could to get this book into people’s hands. And if I’m being honest, I was stretching myself more than I ever had before.

One year later, I can look back and see the incredible stories that came from all of that effort.

Messages from strangers thanking me for writing it. Leaders using it to have better conversations. Companies searching “feedback” on Google and finding my work because of this book.

That still blows me away.

This book has done more than sit on a shelf. It has opened doors, started conversations, and made an impact in ways I could not have fully imagined.

So to anyone wondering whether it is worth the effort to pursue your calling, take the risk, or do something difficult: the answer is yes.

Keep going. The work matters.

Leadership content does not change culture until it is practiced.

In this clip, Jeff Hancher explains why feedback has to move beyond reading, hearing, or watching. Teams need application, discussion, accountability, and repetition until feedback becomes part of how they lead.

What an incredible honor to spend time with the Shared Services team at Cintas during their annual kickoff meeting.

As I reflect on the day, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. Not only for the opportunity to share The State of Readiness keynote, but for the conversations, encouragement, and heartfelt feedback so many team members took the time to share afterward.

Cintas holds a special place in my story. Years ago, I wore the uniform, drove the routes, and learned lessons that would shape my leadership journey for years to come. To stand in front of this amazing team and talk about readiness, accountability, continuous improvement, and turning pressure into potential was truly a full-circle moment.

One of the messages I hope resonated most is this:

Opportunities rarely announce their arrival.

The promotion.
The breakthrough.
The chance to serve a customer in a remarkable way.
The opportunity to influence others.

They simply show up!

Our responsibility is to be ready when they do.

Thank you, Maria Scagliotti, for allowing me to be a small part of your kickoff. This teams energy, engagement, and commitment to excellence were inspiring.

My hope is that each person left challenged to rethink their pursuit, raise their level of preparation, and continue becoming the person their future is counting on.

Stay ready!

We often judge ourselves by our intentions, but others experience us through our actions. When leaders let themselves get too busy to empathize with their employees, they risk creating a major gap between the type of leader they want to be and the leader their team experiences.

And the bad news? This gap gets bigger the busier we are.

But the good news is that you can create strategies to ensure that you are leading with empathy even when you're facing high pressure at work.

Before you correct the performance, make sure you understand the person.

This clip is a powerful reminder that accountability and empathy are not opposites. Jeff Hancher shares a real story about the importance of asking better questions before jumping to discipline.

Of all the decisions I’ve made in my life, saying “I do” to you was the best one. Happy Anniversary Janelle. Love you!
