Debt collector threatening to contact your manager?

That threat needs context. Under the FDCPA and Regulation F, a covered collector generally cannot disclose your debt to your manager or use third-party contact as collection pressure. Limited contact to confirm location information may be allowed, and the usual one-contact limit has exceptions when prior information was wrong or incomplete.

The key question isn't simply whether they called. It's what they revealed, why they called, and whether an exception applied.

Debt collector texted before 8 a.m.?

Regulation F generally treats collection texts sent before 8:00 a.m. in your local time as inconvenient. For electronic messages, the send time matters—not when you opened or read the text.

That does not make every early message an automatic violation. Prior consent, a consumer-initiated exchange, or another limited exception may affect the analysis.

Screenshot the message, preserve the timestamp, and review the circumstances before responding. The exact wording is in the video.

Save this in case a collector texts at the wrong time.

Debt collector says your employer is already holding your wages?

For most ordinary consumer debts, garnishment generally follows a judgment and an order served on the employer. Taxes, child support, and some government debts may use different procedures.

The FDCPA prohibits a covered collector from falsely claiming that wage garnishment is lawful or underway. Ask for the court or agency, case number, order date, and employer-service date—then verify independently. Never ignore court or agency papers.

Debt collector says the call is being recorded and anything you say can be used?

That warning may accompany the disclosure that the caller is attempting to collect a debt and information obtained will be used for that purpose. It is not automatically an FDCPA violation.

You can decline to discuss an account or provide personal information on an unsolicited call. Under Regulation F, telling an FDCPA-covered collector to stop calling generally requires the collector to stop using telephone calls, subject to limited exceptions. A broader federal cease-communication request should be sent in writing.

Take written notes instead of assuming you can record the call yourself. Federal law generally permits one-party consent, but some state laws require everyone’s consent.

Save this before your next collector call.

A debt collector called my client 14 times in one week over a debt she didn’t even owe.

That should never happen to anyone.

She was overwhelmed, scared to answer her phone, and starting to believe she had no choice but to pay it — just to make it stop.

We requested debt validation. Turns out the debt wasn’t even hers to begin with. It came off her credit report completely.

If a debt collector is calling you nonstop and you’re not sure the debt is even yours, stop picking up out of fear and start asking for proof. You’re allowed to.

👇 Has a debt collector ever called you over something that wasn’t even yours? Tell me in the comments.
