How did COVID-19 affect email marketing? Here's a quick analysis:

COVID hit the world, causing a ruckus. Many marketers thought it was going to impact email marketing, however, they were wrong.

Email marketing was not affected by COVID, and they decided to increase their email frequency and intensity.

They saw some initial success, but they did not realize that they were damaging their list quality and loyalty in the long run.

It is much more cost-effective to retain an existing email subscriber than to acquire a new one.

Customers got tired of receiving too many emails, especially when they are working from home and have limited time and attention.

I don’t think COVID was a bad time for marketing, but rather a time to be more strategic and relevant.

It was a great opportunity to reach people who were spending more time online, but also a challenge to stand out from the crowd and deliver value.

Jeanne Jennings gave a great example of a holiday email marketing campaign. She said:

"When I did a test for the client, they had a holiday campaign, and it was like the 12 days of Christmas. So, every day, the first part of the subject line was:

'12 Days of Christmas Day 1, this product is on sale.'
'12 Days of Christmas Day 2…' -- simply by flipping that and saying, 'This product is 50% off, 12 Days of Christmas,'

We saw a huge boost in, not only in open rate and click-through, but in revenue ’cause we put the most important things up front. Nobody cares that this is day 3 of your Christmas thing."

If you're executing a holiday email marketing campaign this season, remember that customer's only care about the item that is on sale -- nothing else. Make the subject lines and pre-headers as relevant as possible!

During the Christmas season and the pandemic, I was bombarded with daily or even more frequent emails from companies, offering me deals and things.

I ended up losing interest in the messages because it had became redundant, and quite frankly, annoying! Can anyone relate?

When companies are not strategic or paying close attention to the metrics of their email campaigns, it can end up losing them subscribers and loyal customers.

I was curious about what people were searching for on Google Trends, so I checked the queries related to deleting Facebook.

Here are my findings...

I found out that the interest in “how to delete Facebook” or “how to delete the Facebook account” has been rising steadily, but it has spiked significantly.
