Gordonville Fire Protection District congratulates and welcomes Ron Kiplinger, the new Fire Chief of Fruitland Area Fire Protection District.

Chief Gentry and Chief Kiplinger are eager to collaborate, enhancing services and protection for our communities.

Fruitland Fire is a vital automatic aid partner for structure fires and tanker alarms in certain areas of our district.

Chief Gentry and family visited Chief Kiplinger at his event in Fruitland this morning to offer congratulations and enjoy some great coffee!

At 7:08 a.m. this morning, our department was dispatched on automatic aid to the Millersville Fire Protection District for a residential first-alarm fire in the 6900 block of State Highway 34.

While units were responding, dispatch advised crews of heavy fire and smoke conditions, with reports that the residence was vacant. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire involvement and immediately went to work containing and extinguishing the blaze before it could spread to nearby outbuildings.

Approximately 10 minutes after crews arrived on scene, part of the second story and roof of the structure collapsed. Millersville Command subsequently requested a County Tanker Alarm to provide additional water resources.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Gordonville units on scene included Tanker/Pumper 3615 and Tanker 3614, which assisted with water supply operations and overhaul efforts. Our units cleared the scene at approximately 10:20 a.m.

As always, we are proud to assist our neighboring fire departments whenever called upon.

Our members participated in a training exercise on Sunday, visiting and inspecting Dry Hydrant locations throughout the district, confirming they were in working order and even flowing water from several.

Are you familiar with the role dry hydrants play in our district's operations or can you define what a dry hydrant is? We invite your responses in the comments.

We tried stopping by Krispy Kreme this morning for national doughnut day but the drive-through was too busy.

No .. but seriously. Thank you Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Office for all that you do and have done for the protection of our county and for the helping hands on many incidents scenes together.

We are always glad we can poke fun, back and forth, with our deputies.

From our friends at Perryville Fire Department

Recently your Perryville fire department responded to a call for a carbon monoxide detector activation. The following highlights the importance of properly installed and maintained carbon monoxide detectors.
Upon crews arrival the occupants of the structure were already evacuated. Fire department crews immediately had readings of 150 ppm (parts per million) inside the structure.. Crews later located the location of the release to be coming from a utility room with readings of 2000 ppm located inside the room.

For people that don't know much about carbon monoxide or (CO) this is a highly poisonous gas that is colorless, odorless, and tasteless it's also referred to as the “ Silent Killer”. Breathing it in replaces oxygen in the blood which can lead to rapid organ damage and death.
Common Sources: Gas furnaces, portable generators, fireplaces, wood stoves, charcoal grills, idling cars, and faulty water heaters.
"Flu-like" Symptoms: Headaches, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion.
Because you cannot see or smell CO, specialized alarms are your only warning.
Install Alarms: Place alarms on every level of your home and near all sleeping areas. Maintenance: Have your heating systems, vents, and chimneys checked annually by a professional.
Safe Operations: Never use a portable generator or charcoal grill indoors or inside an attached garage. Never idle a car in a closed space. See pictures below for information.

A few simple habits can help prevent dangerous clothes dryer fires and keep your home safe:

✅ Clean the lint filter after every load
✅ Check and clean the dryer vent regularly
✅ Never run the dryer when you’re asleep or away from home
✅ Don’t overload the dryer
✅ Keep the area around the dryer free of boxes, clothing, and chemicals
✅ Have your dryer inspected if clothes take longer to dry or the machine gets unusually hot
✅ Use rigid or semi-rigid metal vent ducts instead of plastic or foil

Lint buildup is one of the leading causes of dryer fires. A clean dryer is a safer and more efficient dryer!

Please take a few minutes to check your dryer today — it could prevent a fire tomorrow.
