This morning, the Sustainable Settings crew hoisted brand new colors to celebrate the life and legacy of Wendell Berry, without whom Susty would probably not exist. His words struck the heart of our founders Brook and Rose all the way back in 1979. Those words were the seeds that eventually grew into the idea that became Sustainable Settings.

This afternoon, we were greeted by a brand new bull calf who we undoubtedly will call Wendell. May this little calf stand as a reminder that all things must return in order to give life anew.

Thank you to our donors, herd share members, and supporters whose generosity allow us to continue to feed and educate our community.

Through the integration of these animals into our Whole Farm Organism, the flywheel of fertility continues to turn, promoting the health in our soils, in our food, and in all of our relationships.

Thank you to all of our animal and plant kin - past, present and emerging - with whom we co-create here on the land. Without them, we wouldn’t know the idea of reverence and understanding of place.

Georgian Crystal garlic is back at Susty! 🧄

We started growing this variety back in 2017 when Mike Long brought it from Washington state.

Congrats to to Matt, Cameron, and the whole Susty crew for growing an exceptional garlic crop this year and thank you to our volunteers for helping out with the beautiful and bountiful harvest.

Culinary and seed garlic is currently on sale in our farm store open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11am-4pm and will be available at Mana Foods in the coming weeks.

We’ve been a little quiet on socials lately, and for good reason. We’ve been busy! 🌾

In late June, our high-mountain meadows delivered one of our highest yields on record. We feed hay for seven months of the year to our pristine bovines, and this year’s first cutting will help ensure plenty of winter milk, yogurt, cream, and more. A huge thank you to all of our irrigators who help make it possible! We couldn’t have done it without our amazing crew and volunteers.

Through our internship program, folks have the opportunity to learn every piece of equipment and every step of the haymaking process. In doing so, they move one step closer to understanding what it takes to build topsoil and produce the highest-quality dairy our climate can offer.

Join us this Saturday, May 23rd, for the first of our two-part Dowsing class, where you can discover the practical art of dowsing.

Dowsing 101 is an introduction into the art of dowsing as a means to communicate in other realms. Come together to learn how to read the land, diagnose frequencies and forces in and around your home, measure the quality and quantity in all things, and open you to, in short, how to “talk” with All of The Life We Co-create With.

Participants will leave with the fundamentals of how to move with greater sensitivity in the world practically. The only pre requisite is an open mind and heart. Buckle Up!
