OFFENSE: Crime Damage to Property
OCCURRED: 9-5-2023
LOCATION: 901 Muscatel Avenue, Carlsbad, NM
On September 5, 2023, The Carlsbad Police Department was contacted in reference to extensive damage done to The Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course. When officers made contact with the reporting party, they learned that sometime during the night, a pickup had damaged the green on hole #9 and hole #15. In all, the damages are said to total somewhere in the amount of $50,000 to $70,000 in damages to the golf course. Officers are working with community members in a nearby neighborhood that may have vehicle information.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Undersheriff Matthew Hutchinson reports that on July 2, 2023 the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a radiographic device that was lost on Highway 128 at mile marker 35 near Jal, New Mexico at around 1:30 pm on 6/30/2023.

As stated in the image below, the device is heavy and weighs approximately 50 pounds. It is similar in size to a loaf of bread. The device contains radiographic material but is safe as long as it remains intact. It is likely the device was picked up by a Good Samaritan.

If you find this device, or know of its whereabouts, please call Jace Prozeller (432-556-5537) or Kolie Howell (432-438-1199). You may also contact the State Police Department at 575-382-2500. There is a $5,000 reward available to anyone who provides information leading to the return of the device. Be aware that knowingly keeping the device is a federal crime.

Please do not touch this device if found after seeing this announcement! If exposed to the device for a long period of time, person(s) in contact will be exposed with possible radiation poisoning. If the camera is tampered or opened, contact with the source it could be fatal.
