We've been selected by Lockheed Martin to help support NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research's next-generation C-130J “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft with our Hybrid SATCOM Approach (HSA) platform.

This integration will help enable real-time transmission of critical environmental data, enhancing hurricane forecasting and severe weather response – ultimately supporting more informed decisions when it matters most.

It also marks a key milestone as the first line-fit integration of Viasat’s HSA technology on the C-130J aircraft, helping enable resilient, high-capacity connectivity for mission-critical operations.

🛰️📱Hello from Samarkand!

During this week's GSMA Eurasia Event in Uzbekistan, we successfully showcased Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity in action by sharing messages via satellite on a commercially available Android smartphone.

The demonstration showcased smartphones sending and receiving messages over Viasat’s highly reliable L-band satellite network using 3GPP Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) standards.

In a country-first, application-based messages were shared across two mass-market Android smartphones, with one connected via satellite using a companion device, and the other to a traditional terrestrial cellular network.

“Countries emerging as technology leaders like the Republic of Uzbekistan are rightly excited about the potential for Non-Terrestrial Networks.” said Sandeep Moorthy, Senior Vice President, Advanced Non-Terrestrial Solutions at Viasat.

“Through standards-based satellite connectivity, we can bring connectivity to millions more devices in areas currently underserved by cellular networks, with benefits for safety, sustainability and efficiency."

ViaSat-3 F3 has begun its journey toward geostationary orbit in the orbit-raising phase of its mission. 🛰️ Using its all-electric propulsion system, the satellite is climbing to an altitude of approximately 22,236 mi (35,786 km) above Earth.

Once it arrives in geostationary orbit, ViaSat-3 F3 will match the Earth’s rotational speed and will appear to be “parked” over the Asia-Pacific region, from where it is designed to provide ultra-high-capacity, highly flexible broadband services for commercial, consumer and defense customers.
