Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 Viasat: Space for Good India Challenge. 🇮🇳🏆

First place goes to Adeetya Uppal for DRISHTI: AI Guardian for Sustainable Orbits – an autonomous platform designed to detect threatening space debris, calculate optimal avoidance maneuvers, and transmit real-time collision avoidance commands over Viasat’s satellite network, reducing response times from hours to seconds.

As Gautam Sharma, Managing Director at Viasat India, put it at the finals: “These finalists have looked beyond the technology itself and focused on how space-enabled solutions can address real challenges facing people, communities and industries.” That’s exactly what our STEM challenge was built to do.

Organized in strategic partnership with IN-SPACe, this year’s challenge brought six finalists to New Delhi to pitch to a panel of space industry experts, government representatives, and satellite technology leaders.

Final prep is underway in New Delhi! 🛰️

Now in its second year, Viasat: Space for Good India 🇮🇳 is our flagship STEM challenge that brings together university students from across India to develop space-based solutions to real-world problems, with mentorship from Viasat engineers along the way.

After a multi-month evaluation, our six 2026 finalists are working with Viasat mentors and leaders before they present tomorrow at the finals and award ceremony. Their projects tackle challenges from orbital debris and disaster alerts to crop health and emergency connectivity, as they compete for a ₹11,50,000 prize pool.

With our next generation ViaSat-3 constellation in service, we have tripled the bandwidth available across our network, and Viasat's business aviation customers can tap into all of it.

Honeywell Aerospace's JetWave X next-gen IFC platform, now in service, offers the first terminal able to unleash the full power of Viasat’s network, including our ViaSat-3 and global GX satellites, to enable business jet operators to deliver a home or office-like internet experience in the sky.

“The partnership between Honeywell Aerospace and Viasat is raising the bar for consistent, reliable, high-performance connectivity in business aviation,” says Claudio D'Amico, VP of OEMs, Partners and Fleets, Business Aviation. Rockets get satellites to space, but what happens once they're there? 🚀🛰️

This year's World Space Week theme, "Rocket Revolution," celebrates the vehicles that make spaceflight possible, and without them there would be no satellites in orbit. But launch is only the beginning. Once a satellite reaches orbit, it becomes part of a network that works with ground stations and user terminals to move information across continents, oceans, and airspace.

Where a satellite ends up matters, too. Some orbit a few hundred miles above Earth and circle the planet in about 90 minutes, while others sit more than 22,000 miles up and appear motionless from the ground. Each orbit plays a different role in keeping aircraft, vessels, and remote communities connected.

AD | When I started at sea, staying in touch with home meant waiting for letters to arrive and standing in long queues for expensive, short phone calls in port. That was just how it was. Talking with Ivan Guzman for this Around the World film with Viasat showed me how much has changed. He calls home, messages family, stays part of their day-to-day life, all from the middle of the ocean. These changes started happening while I was still at sea, and they made one of the hardest parts of the job – being away – a little easier. The next generation doesn't feel the impact of the distance in quite the same way as we did, and that changes a lot about what it means to go to sea.
