LJS Independent Facility Experts, a division of LJS Electric Inc. (201-777-6610) "LJS" is a full-service facilities maintenance and engineering company. We've been in operation for over 20 years. We provide specialized mechanical and electrical services to our clients.
We are seeking an experienced HVAC technician to support 1st shift operations, Monday to Friday at a small campus of data centers. Applicants should have a strong background in commercial air conditioning. This is a permanent full-time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct, maintain, test, install and repair commercial air conditioning equipment (5 t0 500-ton systems) including air conditioners, compressors, condensers, pumps, control systems and chilled water systems.
Organize all work detail (work performed, service recommendations, etc.) and complete an accurate work order and timesheet for billing and payroll purposes. Submit all paperwork to the office within 24 hours of completion of each day’s work.
Conduct, maintain, test, install and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components. Applies knowledge of mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical support to all areas.
Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, detect and replace defective control modules, test and make adjustments.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, O.E.M. instructions and specifications.
Estimate jobs/projects. Specify parts and materials, as needed.
Use a variety of hand and power tools, meters and materials handling equipment in performing duties. Employ the use of rigging and lifts to complete work assignments. Solders, brazes and welds.
Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
Detect faulty operations, defective material and report these and any unusual situations to proper supervisor.
Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
Plan and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment.
Install start up and shut down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
Inform appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
Maintain company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
High School or Technical School education.
Must hold State of NJ refrigerant license.
Valid state driver’s license.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Five years of proven experience in the mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
Experience and ability to work in a mission critical environment.
A thorough knowledge of mechanical components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.
Computer experience/operation are necessary.
High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
Must be highly safety conscious.
Considerable judgment required to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available.
Able to make decisions involving considerable initiative and ingenuity.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some heavy lifting and considerable moving of equipment required.
Climbing, bending, stooping, extended periods of walking and standing.
Operating motor vehicles and lifts.
Owning and operating power or hand tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and data center environments.
Regular exposure to weather conditions.
Roof work and the use of ladders and lifts.
