If you’re on the fence about visiting Oregon in late fall, don’t be. This is the kind of moment you’ll stumble on again and again — a Japanese maple glowing like it’s lit from within. 🍁

And this wasn’t even at the Portland Japanese Garden — just a random neighborhood street while we were out trick-or-treating with our granddaughter. The whole city turns into magic this time of year. Love it.

Every year, this view stops us in our tracks. Just after the frenzy of harvest, the vineyard turns golden and the air gets a crisp edge to it. Everything feels peaceful and slow, and we finally have a moment to remember how lucky we are to grow and make wine in such a glorious place.

We’ve just passed the halfway point of véraison, that beautiful moment when the grapes start to soften and change color — green berries turning deep purple and gold. Walking the vineyard right now feels magical.

This year looks like a smaller crop for us. The clusters are bit looser than previous years, and we’re seeing quite a few “chicks and hens” — tiny berries mixed in with larger ones. The berries themselves are small, which usually means less juice but more concentration and flavor. It feels like one of those years where what we lose in quantity, we’ll make up for in quality.

Each block is ripening on its own schedule. Out here, high up in our little “cool and sunny bowl,” you can feel the energy shifting as the vines focus on ripening. It’s one of our favorite times of year — when you can almost sense what’s coming, but we’re not quite there yet.

The 2025 vintage is here—tucked inside these tiny buds. It's hard to believe we’re entering our fifth growing season. We're still fascinated by the cycle of the vineyard--the same yet different year after year. It never gets old.
