This week’s spotlight is on Vasey Askins, one of our newest Probationary Firefighters. Vasey recently completed the State Certified Firefighter 1 Course and is continuing a family tradition of service as the daughter of Firefighter James Askins.
Although she has only been with the department for four months and has responded to one call so far, Vasey already brings valuable experience to public safety. During the day, she serves as an Advanced EMT with Madison County EMS.
When asked why she became a firefighter, Vasey said she wanted to give back to the community where she lives. She currently resides in the Carlton community with her parents.
We also asked Vasey what she considers the best and most difficult parts of being a firefighter. For her, the best part is serving others in Madison County. The most difficult part is witnessing someone else’s loss on what is often one of the worst days of their life.
Outside of her work in emergency services, Vasey enjoys running in her leisure time.
We are fortunate to have Vasey as part of our crew, and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow and serve with the department for many years to come.
