🌧️⛈️STUBBY'S DAILY FORECAST - 5/22/26
A wet, messy afternoon and evening with strong storms possible this afternoon/evening. Better outlook now for Sunday 🙏🏻.
Today’s forecast sponsored by DRYmedic of Carmel IN. When Indiana weather turns nasty, the cleanup often begins after the storm. Reach out to DRYmedic.

Well, race fans... I wish I had better news this morning for today. But we just can't seem to shake this rainy weather as we ping pong between cold fronts and warm fronts that continue to deliver... and let's call it what it is... CRAPPY WEATHER!💩⛈️

BUT... Sunday is looking a bit more promising per this morning's model runs! (see "👀Looking Ahead")

Today will be a weather aware day, mostly central and south across the state. If you're heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Fast Friday and then the concert this evening... prepare for delays and maybe a cancellation due to some strong storms that could pack some lightning and strong winds. I do think they will get some practice laps in before the rain showers move in around 1:30pm or 2:00pm. But storms tonight.

Here's a trip around the three regions...

🔵 Northern Indiana
Northern Indiana stays mostly cloudy and breezy today, but rain is not the main story until later. The Rochester observation was E 13 mph with a 30.14 barometer early this morning, and the NWS forecast calls for east wind 10–15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph today. Shower chances are low through midday, then increase later this evening and tonight. Pressure slowly falls from the low 30.10s toward the upper 29.90s.

🟡 Central Indiana
Central Indiana stays cloudy with showers becoming more likely this afternoon, then likely this evening. The Indianapolis Airport was running NE 12 mph with a 30.05 barometer early this morning, and the Speedway/Indianapolis point forecast supports east-northeast wind 7–9 mph with gusts up to 18 mph and a 60% rain chance today. The better rain window is after 2 PM, especially after 5 PM (90%). Pressure falls slowly from around 30.04–30.05 this morning into the upper 29.90s by evening.

🟢 Southern Indiana
Southern Indiana is the wettest zone today. A look at a few regional airports show wind is calm with a 30.00 barometer early this morning, and the Louisville discussion has the warm front lifting north with widespread morning rain, heavy downpours, thunder, and a marginal severe/flooding risk. Winds are lighter here than north and central Indiana: mainly calm to light east early, then southeast to south under 10 mph outside storms. Pressure slowly falls from about 30.00 toward the lower 29.90s this evening.

👀Looking Ahead...
I do think that the Lucal Oil Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade will be fine as it looks like rain will be out of Central Indiana by 10:00am. Temps will be in the mid-70s.

🟩🏎️Sunday... race day... the timing of rain and storms is shifting, as I thought it might. Look for that system to hopefully move on to the east by around 2:00pm EST and then time to dry the track. Expect a delayed start, but I think they'll get it in and we'll see all 200 laps.🏁🏆

I'll keep you posted!

~ Stubby Out!

👟🎽🥈It will be a cold start to our Saturday and we have patchy frost in Northern and Central Indiana this morning. And runners participating in the IU Health Mini Marathon in Indianapolis will need to warm up quickly as they'll start out with temps in the mid-30s and only warming up to about 47° by the time the last participants finish.

🏇🏻🏆And for those of you headed to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby and the run for the roses 🌹... it should be great racing conditions for the horses and jockeys on a fast track! Ladies, you'll need a sweater or coat over those strapless dresses. Men, grab a sportscoat or blazer. It's going to be a cool afternoon and early evening with temps in the mid-50s and a NNW wind around 9mph and gust in that 15-18mph range... so it will feel a bit chilly and hold onto those fancy hats.

Here's what's happing around our state today...

🔵 Northern Indiana
Northern Indiana starts cold with frost early, then turns mostly sunny with highs only in the lower 50s. Winds stay light, becoming northwest around 5–10 mph this afternoon, with gusts generally staying under 15 mph. Barometric pressure starts near 30.08–30.09 and stays nearly steady through the day. Travel conditions are excellent with dry roads, good visibility, and no precipitation concerns.

🟡 Central Indiana
Central Indiana gets a cool, dry Saturday with frost early, then partly sunny skies and highs in the mid 50s. Winds are light early, then turn north-northwest around 5–8 mph this afternoon with only minor gusts. Barometric pressure starts near 30.07–30.08 and holds close to steady through evening. Travel looks very good today; the only real weather note is the chilly start.

🟢 Southern Indiana
Southern Indiana stays cool but quiet, with patchy frost early and partly sunny skies through much of the day. Highs reach the mid 50s, and winds remain very light, turning north around 5 mph this afternoon. Barometric pressure sits near 30.06–30.07 and changes very little. Travel conditions are excellent with dry pavement and no meaningful weather issues.

Looking ahead...

Rain chances on Sunday
Storm chance Monday afternoon
More rain chances Tuesday through Thursday and remaining cool.
