It looks dry. But is it? 👀

One of the most important tools we use after water damage is our moisture meter.

A surface can feel completely dry while moisture remains inside or underneath the material.

That’s why we don’t just look. We measure.

The water is gone. So the problem is over… right?

Not necessarily.

Moisture can remain hidden behind walls, under flooring, inside cabinets, and in other building materials long after standing water disappears.

That hidden moisture can lead to continued damage and additional problems.

Don’t just look for water. Look for moisture.

Ever wonder why water damage jobs require SO much equipment?

Getting the visible water out is only part of the job.

Air movers, dehumidifiers, extraction equipment, and moisture meters all play a role in getting the structure properly dried.

Because looking dry and actually being dry are two very different things.

If your home or business has been affected by flooding, here are some important first steps.

After a disaster, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Your first priorities should be safety, documentation, stopping the source of water if possible, contacting your insurance company, and getting the drying process started.

The longer water and moisture remain in building materials, the greater the potential for additional damage.

Potter’s Bridge, built in 1870-1871 and the last remaining covered bridge in Hamilton County, looks dramatically different today and this side by side really puts it into perspective. The water crested early this morning with an all time record of 24.6 feet. Unfortunately the rain started again and with more rain still in the forecast today and tomorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by this historic flooding.

These are our communities, our neighbors, our friends, and the places we call home. Our hearts are with every family, homeowner, business, first responder, and community member who has been impacted by the flooding. As the water recedes, we’ll come together to clean up, rebuild, and move forward together. Please continue to look out for one another, stay safe, and keep those affected by these historic floods in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️

⛅⛈️STUBBY'S DAILY FORECAST - 8/10/26
PM storms. Hot & humid. And... a breezy afternoon/evening
Today’s forecast sponsored by DRYmedic of Carmel IN. When Indiana weather turns nasty, the cleanup often begins after the storm. Reach out to DRYmedic.

Northern Indiana deals with multiple storm windows, central Indiana has morning convection followed by a hot/humid recovery and another conditional later threat, while southern Indiana has the longest dry window but a late-afternoon storm risk—especially farther east. Southwest winds are noticeably stronger today, with central/southern gusts approaching 20–23 mph.

Here's a look at your region...

🔵 Northern Indiana
Showers and storms early give way to some midday recovery before another round may develop later this afternoon and evening. Highs reach the middle 80s with humid conditions and southwest winds gusting near 20. Damaging wind, hail and locally heavy rainfall are possible with stronger storms. Pressure falls slightly from 29.92 to 29.9 inHg. Travel could become hazardous quickly during storms due to heavy rain, strong winds and ponding.

🟡 Central Indiana
Morning storms gradually move out, followed by a hot and humid recovery with highs around 90–91°. West-southwest winds become breezy with gusts near 20–22, and isolated storms may redevelop later. Damaging wind and flash flooding are the primary storm concerns. Pressure dips from 20.98 to 29.93 inHg. Travel will improve after morning storms but could deteriorate again rapidly beneath any later downpour.

🟢 Southern Indiana
Mostly sunny, hot and humid through much of the day with highs around 90–92° and heat indices near 100°. Southwest winds gust around 20, with a fairly low chance of scattered strong storms possible later—especially farther east. Torrential rain, lightning and damaging wind are the main threats - IF storms develop. Pressure falls from 30.03 to 29.96 inHg. Travel will generally be good outside storms, but late-day downpours could produce sudden poor visibility and standing water.

Stubby’s Bottom Line
Today is hot, humid and increasingly stormy, but timing varies considerably across Indiana. Northern Indiana has multiple opportunities for storms, central Indiana gets a midday break before another conditional threat, and southern Indiana has the longest dry window. Stronger storms could produce damaging winds, hail, torrential rain and localized flash flooding. Southwest winds are breezy even outside thunderstorms, and heat indices approach 100° across central and southern Indiana.

Stay weather-aware!

📸 Feature Friday 📸

Swipe to see the transformation. 💧➡️🏡

What started as a flooded basement is now a clean, dry, usable space again. These photos show the restoration process from start to finish—from the initial water damage, through demolition and professional drying, to the final result after the homeowner moved everything back in.

Water damage isn’t always over when the standing water is gone. Moisture can remain hidden inside walls, flooring, and other building materials, which is why proper drying is one of the most important steps in preventing additional damage and mold growth.

At DRYmedic Restoration Services of Carmel, we use professional drying equipment and moisture detection tools to ensure your home is dry before reconstruction begins.

If your home experiences water damage, don’t wait. The sooner restoration starts, the more we may be able to save.

🧰 Toolbox Tuesday

👀 What you can’t see can hurt your home.

After a water leak, not all moisture is visible. Water can hide behind walls, under flooring, and inside ceilings—creating the perfect environment for mold growth before you ever notice a problem.

That’s why we use a thermal imaging camera as part of our water damage inspections. While it doesn’t see water directly, it detects temperature differences that help us locate areas where hidden moisture may be present. This allows us to identify affected materials, target drying efforts, and help prevent mold before it starts.

If you’ve experienced a leak, don’t assume everything is dry just because the surface looks fine. Hidden moisture can lead to costly damage if it’s left untreated.

📞 Think you may have hidden water damage? Give DRYmedic Restoration Services of Carmel a call—we’re here to help.
