Today is the last day of our apprenticeship semester! Thank you to all of our apprentices for coming ready to learn their craft and take time out of the field to become better tradespeople. Congrats to all the brothers and sisters who will journey out, and we’ll see all our apprentices on Labor Day! Represent DC 57 well, brothers and sisters!

After nearly 40 years as an IUPAT member including over five on staff, LU 479 service representative Ron Buechel retires today! Ron was a delegate when our union moved to a district council structure and took the minutes for the meeting in which DC 57 was officially chartered in 1999. He has represented our members in bargaining units from hotel painters to county workers to nonprofit staff, and he has also served as our PATCH charity coordinator. Brother Buechel, retirement is well-earned, enjoy it!

DC 57: We hope you all have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend. We’re excited for the upcoming switch to the healthcare administration on June 1st. June also brings a new contract to the SWPA painters as well as raises for our areawide drywall finishers. If you need anything healthcare related over the next week, please reach out to your service representative! Have a great holiday weekend!

It’s starting to feel like summer and our 479 members are hard at work making sure the Allegheny County wave pools are fresh and clean before opening! If you’re cooling off at Settlers Cabin or South Park this summer, take a moment to admire our members’ craftsmanship!

Congrats to our painters in Locals 6, 409, and 530 who voted to accept the contract proposal this morning! The new agreement will take effect on June 1st, giving our commercial, industrial, and bridge painters wages as well as parking reimbursement in select areas for the first time ever. Thank you to our negotiating team and all the brothers and sisters that took time out of their Saturday to use their union power and vote for the future of their work!

Reminder for all our brothers and sister bridge, industrial, and commercial painters in Locals 6, 409, and 530: your contract vote is tomorrow at 11:00am! Please come out, bring your fellow members and use your voice for the future of your contract! We’ll see you there!
