Safety is always a top priority at SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative!

Our tree trimming crews recently completed hurt man rescue and electrical hazard response training, practicing the skills and procedures needed to respond safely in emergency situations.

Training included rescuing an injured coworker from an elevated work area, as well as learning how to safely approach and access a bucket truck when the surrounding area may be energized.

While we hope these skills are never needed in a real emergency, hands-on training helps ensure our crews are prepared to respond safely and effectively when every second counts.

Training today. Prepared for tomorrow.

Utility poles have one job, and it’s not hosting a yard sale, providing home security, or heating up leftovers!

While some of these examples are a little far-fetched, the safety concerns surrounding unauthorized attachments to utility poles are very real.

Items like birdhouses, security cameras, signs, and basketball hoops may seem harmless, but the nails, screws, and brackets used to secure them can damage climbing equipment, injure linemen, and interfere with essential maintenance and power restoration.

At SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative, the safety of our employees and members is always a priority. That’s why personal items should never be attached to cooperative utility poles.

Help us keep our poles clear and our linemen safe. If you have an item attached to a cooperative pole, please make arrangements to have them safely removed.

And while we appreciate a little creativity, we’d prefer our poles stick to delivering electricity. ⚡

October is National Co-op Month!

At SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative, being a cooperative means more than providing electricity. It means working together, putting our members first, and making a positive difference in the communities we serve.

To celebrate National Co-op Month, we asked our Board of Directors a simple question: “What does being part of an electric cooperative mean to you?”

Today, we’re highlighting Board Member Dale Schiebaum, who shares what he values most about being part of the cooperative family.

UPDATE: POWER RESTORED

Power has been restored to all members affected by the outage south of Lake of Egypt.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our crews worked to restore service!

⚠️ OUTAGE ALERT

We have identified the cause of the large power outage affecting members south of Lake of Egypt as a faulty breaker at one of our substations.

Our crews are currently working to backfeed the substation, which will allow us to restore power through an alternate source.

At this time, we anticipate having power restored to all affected members within the next hour.

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as our crews work to restore service as safely and quickly as possible.

Our crews are answering the call!

Linemen from SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative are heading to Alabama to assist with power restoration efforts following Hurricane Isaias.

When disaster strikes, electric cooperatives come together to help neighboring communities get the lights back on. We’re proud of our linemen for stepping up and lending a helping hand to those in need.

Please join us in keeping our linemen, their families, and all those impacted by the storm in your thoughts and prayers. We wish everyone safe travels, safe working conditions, and a safe return home.

88 years of powering our communities. ⚡

On October 5, 1938, SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative was officially incorporated, turning a shared vision among 75 local farmers into something that would transform rural southeastern Illinois.

What began as a grassroots effort to bring electricity to farms and homes has grown into a member-owned cooperative serving more than 25,000 accounts across our region.

As we celebrate National Cooperative Month, we’re reminded that while much has changed over the past 88 years, the principle that started it all remains the same: people coming together to make life better for their communities.

We’re proud of where we started, grateful for the generations who helped build SouthEastern, and committed to powering the communities we call home for years to come.

Take a trip through our history and see how far we’ve come! 👇
