Flood Recovery Resources and Updates for Dimmit County Residents & Business Owners:
Dear Community Members,

We are reaching out to offer support and resources from SRSU International SBDC during this difficult time. We know many of you have been affected by the recent flooding and are actively seeking assistance to help restore your homes, properties, and businesses.

Although the State of Texas has issued a disaster declaration for Dimmit County, we are still awaiting the activation of state and federal assistance programs, including those administered by FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). These programs only become available once a federal disaster declaration is issued. When that occurs, the SRSU International SBDC will be ready to support those efforts and guide you through each step of the recovery process.

In the meantime, we strongly encourage all impacted residents and business owners to report their damages. Accurate reporting helps local and state officials assess the full extent of the event and is essential for determining eligibility for federal assistance.

Report Damage (Required for Recovery Assistance Consideration)

Please complete the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) survey to help determine the extent of damage in our area: https://damage.tdem.texas.gov

When prompted, select the July 12th Ongoing Severe Weather Event or the general “Incident Damages/Losses” option. Document your damage as thoroughly as possible using photos, videos, and written notes.

“The objective of this survey is to help state and local emergency management officials across Texas identify and gain an understanding of damages that have occurred during recent natural disaster activity.”

Please submit one survey per impacted address.

Debris Management

Please share with us any debris‑management efforts your municipality is currently implementing. As general guidance, we recommend the following:

Before Cleaning Up

Take photos of all damage before beginning any clean‑up. Include interior and exterior photos, and label them by room or area.
Photograph the make, model, and serial numbers of appliances (washers, dryers, water heaters, kitchen appliances, TVs, computers).
Save all repair receipts.
If you have insurance, separate damaged items from undamaged items. Adjusters may need to inspect them.
After documenting damage, immediately discard flood‑contaminated items that pose health risks, such as perishable food, clothing, cushions, and pillows.
Ongoing Communication

We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available regarding federal disaster declarations and SBA assistance. In the meantime, we encourage residents of Dimmit County to stay connected with local emergency management officials for additional guidance and support.

If you have questions, please contact the SRSU International SBDC at (830) 876.1264. Your point of contact will be SBDC Advisor Janie Medina

The Re-dedication and ribbon cutting of the Veterans Brick Honor Wall was held after the parade. The front side of that wall is now complete. Veterans from the American Legion Post in Crystal City and the newly revitalized American Legion Post in Carrizo Springs participated in the ceremony along with
Carrizo Springs City Officials and Chamber Office Directors. A brief history of the wall project stated that a committee had been formed to get it started. Mrs. Rosa Ortiz was one of the members of this committee and information from her indicated that the first set of bricks was done in 2006. With assistance from Mrs. Ortiz, the Chamber office worked to get the remainder of the bricks ordered to complete the front. Mr. Beto Gonzalez, another member of this committee, was part of the design of the wall. The wall was constructed to allow bricks to be placed on the back side as well. The Chamber office will be looking into details for additional bricks to be added. The event concluded with a meal and some gifts for the veterans that were sponsored by Lyte Fiber. We give thanks for Chamber workers Diana Martinez and Mary Triplitt for helping with the meal distribution. The City Council members gave the 250th Anniversary Commemorative coins as their appreciation to the veterans. May God continue to bless all our veterans and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

The Chamber of Commerce had the privilege of pulling the float trailer for the veterans of Dimmit and Zavala counties in the 4th of July parade held by the City of Carrizo Springs. The celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary was a special event for our community to honor and pay tribute to all the men and women whose service to our nation is the reason we enjoy our many freedoms. The two beautiful 250th
Anniversary trailer banners were donated by Pastor John Work and his wife Renee from First Baptist Church Big Wells and remainder of the decorating was completed by David and Paula Seydel. Zavala County Sheriff ‘s Office allowed the use of their trailer for the veterans to ride on. Zavala County VSO Eloy Vera and Dimmit County VSO David Avalos were both on board for the parade. May we never forget those who sacrificed their lives and never came home to their loved ones. May we always thank the
veterans that we see in our communities for their service.
