26 years in this industry. “God will provide” shows up in the same place every single time.

Right when it’s time to act.

That phrase has been turned into a permission slip to avoid the hard decision. And it doesn’t work that way.

Chicago winter. Negative debit card. Car repossessed. Three kids walking a mile in the freezing cold to get to church.

A seven-year-old looked up and said she was cold and hungry.

That moment wasn’t God’s doing. The decisions that led to that sidewalk were.

1 Timothy 5:8 is clear. Anyone who doesn’t provide for his household has denied the faith.

God will provide is true. But He also gave the ability to plan. Using one to avoid the other isn’t faith. It’s procrastination with a scripture attached.

Almost awake isn’t awake.

Proverbs didn’t warn about the lazy man. It warned about the man who kept telling himself he’d get to it. A little more time. A little more rest. One more reason to wait.

That’s truth one.

Truth two. The clock isn’t ours to control. James 4 is blunt about it. Life is a mist. Here for a moment. Then gone. There’s coverage that cannot be bought once it’s already needed. The window closes. No amount of money reopens it.

Truth three. The door closes. Matthew 25 tells the story of ten virgins waiting on the bridegroom. Five brought extra oil. Five didn’t. Nobody in that story was evil. The five who got shut out weren’t rebels.

They just thought they had more time.
