Hello from everyone at Conway Communications,



Our office will be closed in observance of the Nevada Day holiday on Friday, October 27th, and will re-open for regular business on Monday, October 30th. This closure includes Help Desk services.



The on-call technician will be available during our holiday closure should a critical need arise. Any regular support requests received during the holiday weekend will be processed as usual when we resume normal operations on Monday.

Job description
A cable technician is responsible to set up, install, secure and test voice, data and fiber optic cables of various pair counts and sizes according to industry standards. Must be dependable and reliable, work well in a team environment and provide excellent customer service. OSHA 10 recommended.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Minimum age is 18 years for insurance purposes.
2. Valid NV Driver's License to drive company vehicle with no more than minor
traffic violations on record.
3. Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficiently to communicate
with the general public.
4. Ability to carry objects weighing 25 lbs. or more, and moving up to 75 lbs.
5. Ability to work at heights, including from a ladder/Scissor Lift, and work in
confined spaces.
6. Ability to use hand tools and electronic test equipment.
7. Ability to distinguish varying colors of wires to identify types.
8. Ability to differentiate between and understand plenum and PVC environments.
9. Ability to understand 4-pair and 25-pair color codes.
JOB SUMMARY:
• Perform installation of voice/data/fiber optic cables of various locations
throughout the Northern Nevada area while satisfying local codes and BICSI/TIA
standards.
• Install work area cabling in walls, modular furniture, and desktop locations.
• Route cable through walls, ceilings, modular furniture, and desktop locations.
• Perform pre-termination procedures, such as organize, form, dress cables,
determine length, slack and label cables.
• Suspend and support cables.
• Build network racks.
• Install grounding for racks and equipment.
• Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, pull cable through
sleeves and core penetrations.
• Identify different types of cable.
• Termination of Cat 3, Cat5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A and fiber optic cabling.
• Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly.
• Complete connections.
• Perform tests on lines and equipment.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour

A typical day in this position begins with assessing the day's work orders, appropriately stocking your truck, and working closely with our lead phone technician and dispatcher for the order and priority of work to be done. This role travels to customer sites using a company vehicle, performs the work described in the work order, and records hours worked, actions taken, and materials used before returning to the office.

Job Requirements

Successful candidates will have these requirements.

- High School diploma or equivalent

- Nevada driver's license

- Reliable daily transportation to/from our headquarters in Carson City

- Ability to lift at least 75 pounds

- Ability to complete OSHA-10 training within 90 days of hire

- Basic understanding of computer networks and Voice Over IP protocols

- Familiarity with network equipment such as switches and routers

- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office

- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment
