DID YOU KNOW?
Lithium-ion batteries are generally safe when used properly, but mishandling, defects, or improper storage can lead to fires, explosions, or chemical hazards, batteries must be recycled at certified collection points with the necessary precautions.
Warning Signs:
Swelling or bulging
Leaking fluid
Burning smell
Excessive heat during normal use
If you notice any of these, stop using the battery immediately and move it to a safe area away from combustible materials.
Olcese Waste services urge you to take the following steps to dispose of your lithium-ion batteries correctly.
1- Identify the battery type
2- Remove battery from device
3- Tape the ends of the battery with clear tape
4- Place them in a container and avoid mixing them with other recyclables or trash
5- Drop off at Certified Facilities
Never throw lithium-ion batteries in regular trash. Damaged or discarded batteries can ignite in garbage trucks or waste facilities and start a fire and cause serious injuries to collecting workers.
