A Heartbreaking Goodbye
With incredibly heavy hearts, we have some very difficult news to share.
Walker’s Bluff Winery will be permanently closing its doors.
This is a decision we never imagined we would have to make. After years of pouring our hearts, hard work, time, and love into this place, it is devastating to say goodbye to something that has become so much more than a business. It has been a place where people celebrated, gathered with family and friends, shared a bottle of wine, listened to music, enjoyed a meal, made memories, and simply came to relax.
Unfortunately, the continued and significant burden of property taxes has made it impossible for us to continue operating.
This is not a problem unique to us. Across Southern Illinois, businesses are facing increasing property-tax burdens and rising costs that make it harder and harder to keep their doors open. Property taxes are influenced by both property assessments and the amounts local taxing districts levy, meaning that even when a business is doing everything it can to survive, its fixed costs can continue to climb.
We have seen firsthand how these costs can affect the future of a business. Commercial property taxes are discouraging development and making it difficult to expand or even remain competitive.
That is heartbreaking—not just for us, but for the communities that lose local businesses, jobs, investment, gathering places, and the people who make those places special.
We believe Southern Illinois deserves thriving small businesses. We deserve a tax environment where businesses can grow, employ people, invest in their communities, and remain here for generations instead of being forced to close because the cost of owning the property becomes unsustainable.
But today, our focus is on saying THANK YOU.
Thank you to every person who ever walked through our doors.
Thank you to everyone who bought a bottle, shared a meal, attended an event, listened to live music, rented a picnic basket, celebrated a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or special occasion with us.
Thank you to our loyal customers, our friends, our families, our employees, our musicians, our vendors, and every single person who supported Walker’s Bluff along the way.
You gave this place life.
The memories made here will stay with us forever, and we hope they stay with you, too. ❤️🍷
We are absolutely devastated that this chapter has come to an end, but we are incredibly grateful that we had the opportunity to be part of your lives and this community.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in Walker’s Bluff Winery, supporting us, and sharing so many unforgettable moments with us.
🍷 Thank you, Southern Illinois.
❤️ Thank you for the memories.
🥂 And thank you for letting us pour them for you.
With love and gratitude,
The Walker’s Bluff Winery Family
