Your perfect team is made up of imperfect people.

If every person on your team were represented by the stone in railroad balast,

You'd look for those who were irregular and jagged.

The perfect looking stones, those that are round and smooth, are the most imperfect of team members. Under pressure, they shift and slide.

Causing the entire foundation to crumble.

But those stones that are rough around the edges, jagged, and irregular?

Those are the perfect team members. Under pressure they lock tight with their fellow irregular team members.

The foundation remains strong.

As you work to assemble your team, remember to choose humans who compliment each other, who carry the characteristics that will cause them to lock in under pressure. Don't fall for the smooth, perfectly rounded stones.

Also - sometimes we come up with parables simply because we like the reel we found.
