Brightleaf Consulting Group is honored to support The Carying Place, a meaningful organization committed to helping working families experiencing homelessness build stable, independent futures. Since 1993, The Carying Place has been serving Wake County families with children, breaking the cycle of homelessness through education, accountability, and compassionate support.

Their signature “Journey Home” program provides 16 weeks of no-cost transitional housing while families receive guidance in financial literacy, life skills, and long-term planning. During this time, parents work toward eliminating debt, saving income, and preparing for permanent, sustainable housing—ultimately receiving their savings back to support that transition. The Carying Place also invests in children directly, offering emotional support, social activities, educational resources, and access to essential services that help restore confidence and stability during difficult times.

We proudly support The Carying Place because they provide not only housing, but dignity, tools for independence, and a chance for families to re-establish a hopeful future. If you’re looking for an impactful way to give back this season, we encourage you to consider supporting their important work.

This Holiday Season, Brightleaf Consulting Group is proud to support Carroll’s Kitchen, an inspiring nonprofit restaurant that is transforming lives in our community. Through their Restorative Employment Model, Carroll’s Kitchen provides job training, culinary skills, and ongoing support for women overcoming crisis—whether from homelessness, addiction, incarceration, or domestic violence.

Their work goes far beyond employment. They create a pathway toward stability, confidence, and economic dignity, and the results speak for themselves: more than 42 program graduates and a remarkable record of renewed independence and restored hope.

We’re honored to stand behind Carroll’s Kitchen and their mission to help women build strong foundations for their futures. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back this season, we encourage you to support their work as well.

Tax time is right around the corner! The due date for taxes to be filed for Partnerships and S-Corporations is March 17. If your accounting isn't done yet or your tax preparer won't be able to file in time, an extension must be filed before that deadline. If your tax preparer isn't able to file an extension for you, you can file yourself for free! The following link from the IRS provides the instructions:

The IRS requires a business to file a 1099 if it paid over $600 to any non-employees such as individuals, contractors, or other service providers. If you are going to pay any contractors or service providers, it's a good practice to require the payee to complete a Form W-9 before you make the first payment. This avoids a lot of the challenges the following January when every business owner needs to determine whether a 1099 needs to be filed.

https://lnkd.in/eXQzfQ9

A Form 1099-MISC or Form 1099-NEC must be filed with the IRS by January 31 to report non-employee compensation to independent contractors. If the business doesn't file these on time, it can be penalized between $60 and $660 with interest per 1099 and potentially be disallowed the deduction. If you have any questions about 1099s, please reach out to us at Brightleaf and we'll try to help!

Are you a new business owner? Did you know you may face penalties if you don't file 1099 forms by January 31st?

We at Brightleaf Consulting Group LLC regularly speak with new business owners who didn't realize they were legally required to file 1099 forms for payments made to each vendor or contractor of $600 or more; however, there are conditions where they may not have to file them. For instance, if your company paid using a credit/debit card or another payment system such as PayPal, your company may not have to file a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC as the bank or payment system will file a 1099-K for those payments. But you need to be careful: if your business paid with Zelle, the company is still required to file a 1099 to those contractors or vendors.

Confused? We understand. Reach out and Brightleaf Consulting Group LLC will do our best to help you!
