I'm not some golden ear reviewer or deep pocket audiophile. I'm just one person making comments about the audio industry and equipment in general. There are no longer any bad products in audio. There are bad value products supported by retailers and reviewers who continue to take advantage of the enormous insecurity of audiophiles. How many advertisements have you seen that state they make the wor
lds best loudspeaker? And who crowned that companies product as the worlds best? I have been hired to tweak many audiophiles systems. These systems cost ten's of thousands of dollars and yet they don't sound like live music. Because they have made their buying decisions based on reviewers and retailers who may not really know what is a low distortion system. You need to find a qualified audio professional to guide and perhaps install a system for you. Let's take a look at loudspeakers. The requirements are full frequency response, low distortion, good phase response, be able to play at low and loud volumes and present an image that is believable. Siegfried LInkwitz's explanation of distortion is anything that is added to or subtracted from the original performance. One of Siegfried's best demonstrations was playing a single tone through two different tweeter brands to a group of magazine reviewers, all from the same magazine. After playing a single tone through the first tweeter he asked the group if they heard any kind of distortion. They all answered no. When he played the second tweeter everyone in the room was stunned. They now heard only a single tone coming from the second tweeter. The first tweeter was playing many different tones. Nest Siegfried rotated the first tweeter while playing white noise. As he turned the tweeter the tones coming from the first tweeter changed. When he tried the second tweeter only the volume of the tweeter changed. Why was the demonstration so important. Because 4 speaker companies that claim to make the worlds best loudspeaker use the first tweeter in their products. And of the 12 reviewers in the room, 5 of them had a speaker using that tweeter. The point I'm trying to impress upon you is just because you read something doesn't make it true, that includes my posts. Attend as much live, amplified music as possible and then go home and reevaluate your system. Be sure to have fun while doing this and trust your ears, not someone else's words.
