Soil functions best when it is covered, protected from overexposure to the environment by something growing on its surface.

Our forages and cover crops will help you reduce erosion caused by wind and rain.
They will also help collect solar energy, turning it into sugars and recycling soil nutrients for use by the next cash crop.

Byron Seeds LLC sharing a little bit about Alfalfa this morning.

If you haven't already, make sure you like/follow their page.

Alfalfa is a legume that can fix most of its own nitrogen, is deep-rooted to give drought tolerance, and yields well during the hotter part of the summer. On many farms today, alfalfa stands are only in production for three to four years. Byron Seeds selects only the highest-performing varieties for maximum yields throughout the life span of the stand.

Make sure you're giving Byron Seeds LLC a follow! Their page is full of so much useful information.

SureStand seed coating is a combination of Myco Seed Treat and a premier mineral coating. Over many years of exhaustive testing at university and industry trials, it has shown a consistent ability to convert more legume seeds to viable seedlings, enhancing the value of the seed sold to the farmer.

SureStand coating enhances germination, seedling survival, and growth by absorbing water from the soil and providing beneficial nitrogen fixing bacteria. Use the same planting rates as uncoated seed.

Read below for information on Orchard grass.

ORCHARD GRASS:
Orchard grass is a perennial, cool-season bunch grass best suited for fertile, light to medium soils with good drainage. It can persist on moderately poor drained soils. Orchard grass has good winter hardiness, tolerance to shade and moderate tolerance to drought. It is an excellent choice for pasture, hay, greenchop or silage and is well adapted to grow with legumes such as clover and alfalfa.

As the weather continues to change, now is a great time to learn about our cool season combo. Cool Season Combo will help build soil mass by adding organic matter, capturing nutrients, producing nutrients, breaking compaction, and giving
excellent soil structure.
This is great to keep in mind for next year as optimal planting time is mid August - mid September.
