Wyo Medical Center is now allowing doulas!

Great news - doulas are now viewed as medically necessary staff here in Casper and will be welcomed to accompany birthing women at the Wyoming Medical Center! So, hire a doula! Women who test positive for Covid-19, however, will not be allowed to bring a doula, nor any visitor, to the birth. Doulas....

I am Sarah, birth doula and creator of Little Lives Doula Care. I am turning 30 soon. I am a proud (and often tired) mama of three earth-born babies and one who didn't live outside my womb. Many hospitals are implementing restrictions on birthing mothers. But you CAN advocate for yourself and your choices and options. The World Health Organization is currently not recommending isolation of mother and baby if the mother has tested positive for Covid-19, yet many hospitals are still recommending isolation. There are so many more benefits of bonding skin-to-skin, breastfeeding and rooming-in with your infant, than there are risks of infection to baby. See my blog post regarding Covid during pregnancy (link in profile).

You might also need to advocate to allow a doula to join you in the hospital or birth center. We doulas are fighting to be considered "medically necessary." You can help by being advocates for that cause.

Practice advocating for yourself. Practice what you will say. Practice asking questions regarding risks, benefits and alternatives. Have your partner practice. Role-playing is so helpful to scary actions. You can do this mama!

Birth Trauma is real and can manifest itself regardless of circumstances, regardless of a healthy mama and baby or a stillborn baby, regardless of a hospital or home birth setting, regardless of birth plans or essential oils or partners or doulas.

If you look back on your birth and define it as traumatic, then it was.

Many many women experience birth trauma. Instead of shaming others for choices or experiences, let's talk about it.
