Are you ready to walk among thousands of years of history? Join the Meeteetse Museums on June 13th for an exclusive tour of the Legend Rock State Petroglyph Site alongside Dr. Julie Francis. Legend Rock features a spectacular, 1,312-foot near-vertical cliff that is home to more than 92 petroglyph panels and over 300 ancient figures. Seeing this sacred and historic site is an unforgettable experience on its own, but exploring it with Dr. Francis's expert interpretation makes it truly unmatched.

Due to limited space on the trail that winds along Legend Rock, we are limiting tours to 10 people per tour. The first tour kicks off at 9:30 AM and the second begins at 11:00 AM. Public registration is open, and spaces are filling up. You can secure your spot right now by calling the museum at 307-868-2423 or by stopping by to sign up in person. Just a quick heads up for your weekend planning: Legend Rock is located about 40 miles south of Meeteetse, so participants will need to provide their own transportation to the site.

What stories are written into the landscape around us?

Join artist, archaeologist, and educator Aubrey Edwards at Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site for Reading the Land: Art, Archaeology, and Deep Time, a hands-on workshop exploring how people leave traces, marks, and stories across generations.

đź“… Saturday, June 13, 2026
⏰ 10 a.m.
📍 Petroglyph Cliff, Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site

Inspired by the site’s ancient petroglyphs and pictographs, participants will discover how artists and archaeologists both work as interpreters of the past, asking what marks mean, who made them, and why they endure.

The program includes guided observation, conversation, and a creative drawing activity where participants will create their own “time studies” inspired by the landscape. Together, participants will reflect on how we connect with places today and what legacy we hope to leave for future generations.

No artistic experience is necessary. Families and participants of all ages are welcome.

Bring a sketchbook and something to write or draw with.

As part of Wyoming’s America 250 celebration, artists are spending time in state parks and historic sites across Wyoming creating new work inspired by the people, places, and stories that shape our state. Through their residencies, artists explore the themes of honoring our past, examining our present, and imagining our future.
