On this project, clients possessed a large half-circle driveway at a country home. Originally, it only had one parking space off of the circle driveway, which was insufficient for the gatherings they hosted at this country vacation home. The area adjacent to the house was utilized by incorporating fieldstone walls and steps to create a main parking area. A substantial gabion retaining wall was constructed to transform a 45-degree slope into a flat, usable area. Initially, the clients sought to expand their outdoor living space and install a pool. The property featured a pronounced slope, as evident in the image to the bottom right. The excavation materials from the pool excavation were repurposed to flatten the yard behind the gabion wall, thereby creating functional space. Behind the wall, a drainage system was installed, incorporating drainage pipes to daylight fabric to separate the native soils from the backfill stones. Upon completion of the wall and grading, the pool was installed, patio work was finished, and the fence was reestablished around the entire property, inside the wall.
