Please keep one of our members in your thoughts and prayers this week.

One of our fire department members will be undergoing a major surgery on Wednesday. Out of respect for him and his family, we won’t be sharing personal medical details, but we ask that you join us in sending strength, encouragement, and prayers to him, his loved ones, and the medical team caring for him.

We know he’ll face this challenge with courage, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he’s ready.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect beginning on Tuesday for portions of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia and will prevail into Friday. During that time, daytime heat indices stretch into the upper 90s to 100s with very little relief during the overnight hours. This multi-day stretch of heat and humidity raises the risk for heat illness. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun if possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors this week.

Today we would like to recognize and thank deputy chief Taylor Darby for 12 years of dedicated service to the Catlettsburg Fire Department.

Over the past 12 years, chief Darby has served our community with professionalism, commitment, and pride. His contributions to this department and the citizens we serve have made a lasting impact, and we are grateful for the time and dedication he has given.

While we are sad to see him leave, we are excited for him as he begins a new chapter in his career. On behalf of the members of the department, we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Thank you for your service, dedication, and friendship. You will always be a part of our fire department family.

Tonight, members trained on the King Ceiling Prop, which simulates the physically demanding task of pulling ceilings during and after a structure fire. Training like this helps prepare our firefighters for real-world situations they may encounter on the fireground.

If this is something that interests you, we’re always looking for dedicated volunteers who want to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and serve a great community.
