With a team of dangerous goods experts, we not only provide shipping and packaging services but also training and consulting. Our story began in 1979 when Viking started as a crating company. We served local manufacturers, primarily those in the oil industry. Soon after, we branched into the aviation market by producing ATA plastic containers. At the request of our aviation customers, we became experts in U.S. As part of this, we began manufacturing and testing packaging to ensure the legal shipment of dangerous goods, both domestically and internationally. With our expertise in hazmat regulations, we decided to further increase our services by performing the required training and consultation for individuals and companies who need help ensuring compliance with federal regulation. In 2005, Weilert Enterprises, Inc. purchased Viking Packing Specialist. Since that time, we have worked to maintain Viking’s wonderful reputation, while adding new capabilities, products and equipment. In 2016, Viking Packing Specialist purchased GSI Logistics, Inc. in Dallas, which allowed us to expand the Viking brand to a new region. A world-first achievement backed by testing designed to prove performance under extreme conditions.

Last summer, Viking Packing Specialist supported our sister company, Viking Drone Packaging, by performing rigorous crashworthiness testing on its specialized RPAS container, including multiple 400-foot helicopter drop tests onto an unyielding surface.

The result?

Viking Drone Packaging has now received a Letter of Recommendation from the UK Government’s Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) for its crash-protected container designed for the transport of radiopharmaceuticals by drone — the first recommendation of its kind.

The testing demonstrated that dangerous contents remained safely contained even under severe impact conditions, supporting an important step forward for the transport of time-critical radiopharmaceuticals such as Gallium-68.

We’re proud that Viking Packing Specialist’s testing capabilities helped support this milestone and the continued advancement of safe, compliant drone logistics.

Some cases protect equipment. Others protect memories.

A gentleman recently contacted us about an old American Airlines service container built by Viking Packing years ago that had belonged to his grandfather, Donnie Neely.

Donnie worked as an aircraft mechanic for American Airlines for roughly 20 years. He was also a pilot, and his passion for aviation inspired his grandson, Levi, who is now a student pilot working toward an aviation career of his own.

Although the case’s aluminum frame was still intact, the top panel and interior had suffered significant damage over the years. Our team replaced the damaged panel, rebuilt the interior padding and carefully cleaned the case—while preserving the original markings, wear and character that made it so meaningful.

After receiving the restored case, Levi shared:
“Viking Packing Specialist did an incredible job restoring a piece of my family’s aviation history. They brought my grandfather’s American Airlines box back to life while keeping the original character and memories intact.”

We are honored to have played a small role in preserving this family’s story—and a tangible connection between two generations who share a love of aviation.

Because sometimes, the most valuable thing a case protects isn’t what goes inside it. It’s the history it carries.
