We’ve been sharing glimpses of this new custom build as it takes shape… and we can finally share a little more about what we’re working on. 🔨

This is a ThornHaüs spec home, designed and built by our team here in Saugerties, NY.

Framing is well underway, and over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing more of the vision behind the home, the details going into it, and what’s ahead as construction continues. 👀🏡

Another progress update from Camp Otium - and a closer look at some of the details that make this passive build so unique.

The HVAC system is now being installed, including a custom approach designed by the homeowner that utilizes the two low walls of the upstairs space to distribute air throughout the room.

Outside, the loggia is coming together through a carefully planned assembly of framing, insulation, a sloped EPDM membrane, decking, ventilation, and a custom railing system designed to keep all fastening points well above and outside of the waterproofed areas.

These are the details that eventually disappear behind the finished product, but they’re also the details that determine how a home performs for years to come.

It’s always rewarding to reach the stage where all of that planning starts coming together.

Framing is underway on one of our current builds, and we’re starting to see this project come to life from the ground up.

You don’t have to build everything at once, but it’s worth thinking about what comes next before you start.

Maybe you’re building the house now, but an ADU is part of the long-term plan. Or the deck comes first, with a pool, patio, outdoor kitchen, or additional landscaping a few years down the road.

Thinking about those future phases early can influence decisions you’re making today. Where utilities run, how electrical and plumbing are planned, where septic systems are located, how structures are positioned, and how different areas of the property will eventually connect.

At ThornHaüs, we work with our clients from the early planning stages to understand not only what they’re building now, but where they ultimately want the property to go.

From the custom deck and pool fencing to the bluestone patio, there’s a lot happening throughout this project - and these progress shots give a closer look at the work going into every part of it.
