A finished wall can look simple. Getting it there isn’t.

Before these studs ever become part of the wall, we’re checking the crown of each board and making sure it’s oriented correctly. It’s a small step during framing, but skipping it can leave you with walls that look uneven or wavy once everything is finished.

These are the kinds of details that eventually get covered by sheathing, drywall, paint, and finishes. You may never see them in the completed home, but they still affect the quality of what you’re left with.

Good construction isn’t just about how a home looks when it’s finished. It’s about what happened before you could see the finished product.

Another progress update from Camp Otium 🔨

The exterior is really starting to take shape, with most of the siding now installed and the ThornHaüs crew working through the trim, plinth blocks, and finer details before moving into paint and finishing.

Four different cladding products come together across the exterior, including James Hardie Building Products panel, Thermory Ignite, and Thermory Benchmark Ash, each with its own role in the overall design and assembly.

As with every part of this passive build, there’s a lot happening behind the finished look. From aluminum flashing and thermal breaks to carefully set exposed fasteners, each detail is being worked through with both performance and the final appearance in mind.

We’re getting closer to seeing the full exterior come together, and we’re looking forward to the end result.

A look behind the transformation of this recently completed backyard project. 🔨

There was a lot more to this project than the finished pool area you see today. The goal was to create a backyard that felt more connected to the home, easier to move through, and ultimately more enjoyable to spend time in.

We started by reworking the existing porch and deck area, adding the proper support and building a new multi-landing stair system to create a more natural transition from the house down to the pool.

More than 1,000 yards of fill were brought in to raise the grade closer to the house, followed by the thermal bluestone patio and bullnose coping that created a clean, seamless transition around the pool.

The result is more than a finished backyard. It’s a space that now flows from the house to the deck to the pool, making the entire property feel more connected and giving the homeowners a backyard built to actually be used and enjoyed.

From the site work underneath it all to the construction, hardscaping, and finishing details, every part of the project played a role in bringing that experience together.

From foundation to framing. 🔨

The walls are officially going up on this new garage build, and the space is starting to take shape. The ThornHaüs crew has been on site getting the framing in place and bringing the next phase of this project together.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but this is always one of those stages where you can really start to see the finished structure come to life.

When we first shared this project, we showed you where we’re headed. Now, we’re taking you through some of the work that’s getting us there, and what it means for someone interested in making SixtyEightRivkaRoad their home.

From the groundwork and foundation to framing, roofing, and everything happening on site today, the home has come a long way.

But while construction is moving, the finished details haven’t all been decided.
