Closing the feedback loop 🔄

When people don’t quickly see how their input led to action, they assume it didn’t matter. Even if change happens, a slow or unclear response makes it feel like nothing changed.

Research shows: fast, visible feedback builds trust and keeps people engaged. So how do we close the loop? Here's one strategy:

👉 Share what’s changing because of their input. When updates happen, be explicit about the connection: “Based on your feedback, we’re shifting X to Y.” That clarity goes a long way.

We were delighted to attend Iowa Council of Foundations Summer Membership meeting with Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO).

And, we loved seeing the engaging presentation from Kaleigh Trammell of Quad Cities Community Foundation. It was a day full of learning, connection, and inspiration. đź’›

Research shows: fast, visible feedback builds trust and keeps people engaged. So how do we close the loop? Here's one strategy:

👉 Use multiple channels. People don’t always read the full email or attend the next meeting. Reinforce the message in meetings, newsletters, 1:1s—wherever they’re likely to see it.

We love seeing organizations turn ideas into action - even before a strategic plan is finalized.

That’s exactly what Try Pie did. During a recent planning session, we discussed the importance of expanding their donor base. Just a week later, they sent a powerful email asking current supporters to share the mission with a friend. 💌

To keep the momentum going, we’re proud to support their “Be One of 50” campaign with a matching gift - up to $2,000 for all new one-time and new monthly donors.

As the U.S. population rapidly ages, philanthropy faces new challenges in addressing senior care, healthcare infrastructure, and workforce shortages in caregiving professions. This demographic shift requires more funding and innovative solutions to support aging communities.

👉 Close the loop faster. Even if it’s a temporary update while decisions are pending, communicating progress early helps people feel connected to the process. Don’t wait until everything is final to say something.
