Botanist and Barrel We're family bound by love for good food, here to shake up the South. Frustrated by wines that didn’t reflect our South, we made our own. Farm. Fruit. Ferment.
(292)

We dreamed of a winery as inclusive and vibrant as a potluck, celebrating local fruits and shared moments. Dry Fruit Wines, Farmhouse Ciders & Spirituous Barrels. Botanist and Barrel and the B&B tasting room are beautifully situated on Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm just north of Hillsborough, NC. We craft a variety of barrel aged and stainless steel dry wines, ciders and sours, using only the finest southeastern grown fruits, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, peaches and apples. We believe in light-handed winemaking using centuries old European techniques, allowing the fruits, yeast and barrels we have carefully selected to be vivid and expressive. Visitors can spend the day picking blueberries (season runs July-August), purchase and taste our wines, local craft beers and prepared foods, all in a scenic farm setting.

Noon. Today, tomorrow, and Sunday. Both bars.

Over in Cedar Grove, Kether Smith is behind the bar, pouring weird w**e, wild c***r, and probably something you didn’t know you needed in your life.

No dress code. No w**e snobs. No reason to be anywhere else.

Alsace is coming to Asheville this Friday, and it's bringing some seriously good w**e.

We're welcoming Maxime Goudou of Domaine Achillée + Pépin, for a tasting of six w**es that remind us why we fell in love with natural w**e in the first place.

Small growers, native yeast, plenty of personality, and a w**ery built from straw, wood, and earth. These are our kind of people.

**Friday | 5:30 to 7:30 pm**
Botanist & Barrel Asheville
32 Broadway St.

**$15 for six w**es, or complimentary with a bottle purchase.**

No reservations. Just show up, meet Maxime, and drink some damn good Alsatian w**e.

Hurricane Helene taught us a hard lesson. We need to get better at taking care of ourselves and each other.

Two years later, we're still thinking about how to make our little business and our local food system stronger. How to better preserve what's grown right here.

The last vinegar house in North Carolina closed more than 30 years ago. We think it's time to bring one back.

Meet Sour Folk, our new vinegar house turning local fruits, surplus harvests, and w**e into some damn good vinegar.

It's something we've wanted to do for a long time, and we're finally going for it.

We launched Botanist and Barrel with a Kickstarter, so we figured we'd do the same here. And it's live. When can back us you can grab some vinegar, join us at the launch party, or make your own custom vinegar.

Every single backer helps, and we'd love to have you along for the ride. Give us a follow at Lyndon Smith and share away.

Link in bio. Come get sour with us.

**WE'RE HIRING! 🍎🍷**

Like good w**e, good people, and a job where no two days look quite the same? We should talk.

We're looking for someone to join our Cedar Grove crew! One day you might be pouring c***r at the farm, another delivering w**e to restaurants and bottle shops, and the next representing us at a farmers market or festival.

We're a small, family owned w**ery and c***ry, which means everyone pitches in, everyone matters, and there's always something interesting happening.

**The details:**

• Part time, 3 days a week
• Thursdays and Sundays required, plus Friday or Saturday
• Tasting room, farmers markets, festivals, events, and wholesale deliveries
• Opportunity to grow into a full time role with even more hands on w**ery and farm experience

Experience is great, but being dependable, outgoing, curious, and willing to jump in wherever needed matters even more.

Know someone who would be a great fit? Send them our way!

**Interested? Message us for the full job description.**

We talk a lot about knowing who grew what’s on your plate.
That includes oysters.

This Saturday night on October 10th, Morgan from and Griffin from aren’t just dropping off a bunch of oysters and disappearing. They’re bringing oysters they actually raised in Topsail Sound, then sticking around to roast them, shuck them, eat them, and tell you exactly where they came from.
That’s our kind of dinner.

Add live music from , a bottle of w**e, and an October afternoon on the farm and we’re pretty much done here.

Saturday, October 10 | 4 to 7 pm
Cedar Grove

Preorder your oysters. Come hungry.

Three reasons your fridge could use a little rearranging.

Blueberry Less Is More Pet Nat is 100% estate grown blueberries, never sprayed, cold pressed and native fermented in barrel. Dry, fresh and seriously zippy with just a kiss of bubbles.

**es 2025 Merlot brings Yadkin Valley fruit, 15 days on the skins and four months in neutral barrel, with juicy red fruit, blueberry and just enough softness to make the bottle disappear faster than intended.

Then there’s Sunshine Rainbow, where fresh apricot juice meets our house c***r blend before heading into wh***ey barrels. Floral, bright, sparkling and a little unexpected.

Three completely different bottles. All very much us. All drinking beautifully right now.

And because bottles are considerably more useful open than sitting on a shelf, they’re 10% off through Sunday with code OCTOBER in both tasting rooms and online.

Gotta give some huge love to Jeff, Taylor, and Bill over at Addison Farms Vineyard for helping us crush this beautiful fruit from Eric Case’s new vineyard.

This is our first chance to work with Eric’s fruit, and we’re seriously excited to see where it goes.

Of course, the grapes showed up right before Apple Fest, because harvest has absolutely no interest in your calendar. That’s when good neighbors matter. The folks at Addison opened up their crush pad and helped us get everything processed while the fruit was ready.

It takes a village y’all!
