Cybersecurity isn’t just for IT: it’s for everyone
2024 saw more cyberattacks than ever, and small businesses are right in the crosshairs. While there are plenty of tools to help stop threats, the biggest risk sits... between the chair and the keyboard.
At Capstone Works, we’re big believers in building good security habits into your day-to-day. Here are a few that everyone should live by!
🔐 Stop reusing passwords
We get it—creating unique ones for every site is a pain. But if one account gets hacked, every other account with the same password is suddenly wide open. Use a password manager. Trust us, it’s worth it. (And we supply one to our clients as part of our service!)
📲 Turn on 2FA/MFA everywhere you can
That extra little code when logging in? It adds a major layer of protection. Use an authenticator app if you can—it's way safer than just a text. We MANDATE this across our client base because the risk of not using MFA is too high to accept.
🧐 Think before you click
If an email looks even slightly off, or you're not expecting it, slow down. Hover over the link, and check where it really goes. If something seems weird, it probably is. Capstone Works performs phish testing and training for our clients who need to meet elevated cybersecurity requirements (HIPAA, CMMC, NIST, GLBA, etc.)
📢 And if you do fall for a scam, say something!
We’re all getting bombarded by phishing attempts, shady links, fake calls... it happens. What matters is how you respond. Report it, talk about it, and learn from it.
