Wednesday of this week was a full and meaningful day.

I started before sunrise and drove nearly two hours to join a conference focused on the work of rural nonprofits.

The setting was beautiful, the hospitality was first-class, and the room was filled with talented leaders who care deeply about their communities. Spending time with them was both energizing and humbling.

I’m grateful to the Greater Fayette Community Foundation for supporting my session, Vision Forward: A Reflective Journey with Your Future Self. Being part of their commitment to rural impact was a privilege.

Because my presentation was in the afternoon, I was also able to co-host our Georgetown Nonprofit Group webinar that morning—a reminder of how powerful it can be when communities show up to learn from one another.

Some days, the early start is worth it. You get to show up, do the work you love, and count the blessings along the way.

How do you do community?

For me, it starts with a simple idea: invite people who care, give them room to grow together, and then step back enough for something real to take shape.

I’ve always believed we’re built for connection. Some of us find it through service, some through work, others through parenting or shared interests.

There’s no single right way — but there is something powerful about choosing to be in a space where you can show up fully as yourself.

That’s where authentic community begins.

When I help create those spaces, I keep it simple and welcoming. A neutral place that feels comfortable. Coffee close by. No formal agenda.

Just time for people to introduce themselves, share a bit of who they are, and let relationships unfold naturally.

I usually wait about thirty minutes before doing introductions — it gives folks a chance to settle in and ease into conversation.

Consistency helps too. Set a schedule that’s easy to remember and repeat. Be present. Listen more than you speak.

And one more thing I’ve learned along the way — when the goal is genuine connection, aggressive selling quickly deflates the room. People come to be seen and heard, not pitched.

What happens when you create this kind of space?

People discover ideas, encouragement, and friendships they didn’t know they needed. We all have something to learn, and something to offer in return.

Community simply gives us a place to bring those gifts forward — together.

I’m honored to be a session speaker at the Day of Education: Rejuvenation, hosted by the Rural Nonprofit Networking Group and Greater Fayette Community Foundation on November 12 in Schulenburg, TX.

My session, “Vision Forward: A Reflective Journey with Your Future Self,” invites leaders to pause, look inward, and reconnect with the purpose that fuels their impact.

Leadership is as much about who we’re becoming as it is about what we’re achieving.

If your organization is ready to:

Strengthen leadership clarity and confidence,

Reignite team purpose, or

Build a roadmap for meaningful, sustainable impact—

I’d love to connect. Visit langloisconsultantservices.com to explore my approach, subscribe to the Learning to Thrive newsletter, or schedule a complimentary call to see how we can help your mission move forward with clarity and intention.

Emotions are real—but they’re not always reliable guides.

Feelings can reveal something important, but they’re not always telling the whole story.

If we react without reflection, we risk making decisions based on fear, fatigue, or frustration.

What emotion is driving your decisions right now? What might it be pointing to beneath the surface?

Feelings deserve a seat at the table—but they don’t get to lead the meeting.

Take time this week to notice without reacting.

You’re allowed to slow down—without needing to earn it.

Many leaders run until they break, then wonder why they didn’t stop sooner.

Rest is a rhythm, not a reward. And pausing isn’t quitting—it’s recalibrating.

Where could you build in a pause before you're forced to stop?

This week, block 30 minutes a day for yourself. No agenda. No productivity. Just room to breathe.

AND, stop eating lunch at your desk. It will improve your mood and health.

Guilt may push you into action—but it rarely leads to healthy decisions.

Many leaders act from guilt, not clarity. They say yes to avoid discomfort or disappointment.

However, guilt-driven choices often lead to feelings of resentment or burnout.

What have you recently said yes to something out of guilt?

What would it look like to respond with honesty instead?

This week, practice checking your motives. Is it love—or is it guilt—that’s leading your decisions?

Ok, now, this is exciting!

Disappointing someone doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It might mean you’re finally honoring your limits.

Many leaders struggle with saying no because they don’t want to let people down.

But pleasing others at the cost of your well-being leads to resentment—and loss of purpose.

Who are you afraid of disappointing right now?

What expectation needs to be gently rebalanced?

You can disappoint someone and still do what’s right.

Chaos loves confusion. But clarity creates peace.

When you're overwhelmed, often it’s not the work—it’s the lack of clarity.

Clear expectations, clear roles, and clear goals ease anxiety and reduce unnecessary conflict.

Where in your life or work are things unclear right now?

Who needs to hear a clarifying question—or a boundary?

Confusion drains energy.

What clarity could bring calm to your next week?

When everything falls on you, something’s off.

Being helpful is noble. But feeling like it’s all up to you is not only exhausting—it’s unsustainable.

Healthy leadership involves equipping others, rather than carrying everything yourself.

What are you holding onto that someone else could share—or even own?

Let go of the cape.

What would change if you trusted your team—or your community—a little more this week?

There’s a difference between compassion and control.
One frees people. The other traps you.

When we rush to fix, manage, or smooth over someone else’s problems, we risk stepping into a role that doesn’t belong to us.

Genuine care empowers others to grow—even if that means letting them face the hard parts.

Is there a situation where your care has crossed into control?

What might it look like to step back and trust?

Let care be a gift—not a tether.

This week, where can you practice caring without overreaching?
