Cocktail Classic Spotlight time!

We are thrilled to welcome our friends from The Hotel at Kirkwood Center and their Maikka Lobby Bar! Their creation, a Brown Sugar Espresso Cedar Ridge Bourbon Smash, is inspired by 'Bloom after Dark' based on a painting they purchased from Jose Clemente in 2019. He had created this piece as an auction item for the Academy of Scholastic and Personal Success event that was at The Hotel!!

Get your tickets today, and vote for your favorite drink on Tuesday night!

That'll do, pig. That'll do.

Welcome to our next competitors from Crosby's! They have been inspired by the one, the only...Pigcasso! Their recipe is equal parts cedar ridge & pork butt drippings. They inject their pork butts with a dehydrated pork stock, rehydrated with Dr Pepper. Lipid washing this with the bourbon creates an old fashioned Jell-O shot, if you will!!

Sounds like a cocktail you don't want to miss! Iowan to the core!

Meet the last three of our five judges for Cocktail Classic: Art Movement! presented by Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center and sponsored by Terry-Durin Co. & Cedar Ridge Distillery.

Jay DiGise is the Director of Food & Beverage at the soon to be opened Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center, focusing on enhancing dining experiences and fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability. With a deep passion for hospitality and culinary excellence, he has overseen operations spanning multiple restaurant concepts, bars, banquets, and live entertainment.

We're so excited to have BOTH hosts of Z102.9 as judges this year! When she’s not broadcasting, Clare Duffy is a busy mom to two great girls and her out-numbered husband, Nick. Clare hails from Williamsburg, Iowa where she grew up participating in FFA, speech and drama. Her All State Speech Contest flag still hangs in the school rafters. She attended Mount Mercy University, back in olden times when it was just a college, and Cedar Rapids hasn’t been able to shake her since. She’s not Czech, but knows her way around a kolache—baking and eating them for the St. Ludmila Kolach Festival every year! Eric Hanson is also co-host of Morning Scramble! Boy this guy doesn’t know when to quit. He volunteers for arts and human services groups throughout the region. Travel back in time, and you’ll discover he was part of team that launched Z102.9. Named Radio Ink’s “Program Director of the Year” twice. Eric loves his Hawkeyes and loves that he met his uber hip wife of 20+ years, Shannon, in the Hawkeye Marching Band. Enjoys life’s experiences, travel and theater. Throw him a line and ask him to improv.

Trent Buglewicz is a Choir Director at Linn-Mar High School. He directs the curricular choirs Chamber Singers, Cantemus, and Fortis; as well as the Varsity Show choir 10th Street Edition. Trent graduated with his Bachelors degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Trent is an avid baseball, basketball, and football fan that is constantly watching and struggling to play at any opportunity. He absolutely loves his career at Linn-Mar High School!

Happy fall fundraiser! See below for a note from our Executive Director, Scott Wilson.

Fans of NewBo City Market,

We have started our Fall Fundraiser, and if you could please share this post we would appreciate it as it takes everyone to keep the non-profits of Cedar Rapids successful. The more it is shared, the better the fundraiser will be.

We have a simple task as we near the end of the year, we are looking for 100 people to support the Market with a $200 one time donation. We appreciate each and every one of you that visits the Market annually, and this ask helps cover the costs of utilities, maintenance, and all the FREE programming that happens at the Market. If you have enjoyed our FREE programming of music, arts, events, or local entrepreneurs, then please consider a donation to the Market.

This can be done by going to our website and clicking Support the Market, or by mailing a check to our offices. These donations allow us to continue to keep everything open and running and the Shopkeepers within our Market doing the great things they do to drive the economy of Cedar Rapids.

This request may be for $200 but we will of course welcome any support you can give us. If everyone on our socials gave $5 we would have a tremendous fundraiser, so small donations always add up!!!

Thank you for your generous support!! The link in the comments will take you to the donation page, and we hope to see you soon at NewBo City Market!!
