Mold isn't always obvious. A musty smell that won't go away, discoloration or bubbling on drywall, or allergy symptoms that improve when you leave the house can all point to mold growing somewhere you can't see. If something feels off, it's worth having it checked.

Mold removal and mold remediation aren't the same thing. Removal just gets rid of what's visible. Remediation addresses the moisture source and hidden growth so it doesn't come right back. If you're dealing with mold, it's worth knowing which one you're actually getting.

Not every restoration company operates the same way. Before you hire one, ask: Are they IICRC certified? Licensed and bonded in Washington? Do they handle insurance documentation, or just the physical work? The right questions upfront can save you a lot of frustration later - feel free to call us at 360-480-7540 if you want a second opinion on a quote you've already received.

What does mold need to grow? Not much.

Heat above 40°F ✅ (very much yes in Thurston County in July)
Moisture above 60% relative humidity ✅ (especially in crawlspaces after a heat spell)
An organic surface to colonize ✅ (wood framing, insulation, subfloor plywood)

All three boxes are being checked this week. Last week's heat drove humidity deep into crawlspaces and attics across Lewis and Thurston counties. Rain hits Tuesday. Mold starts working within 24–48 hours of sustained moisture.

The thing homeowners don't realize: mold grows for weeks before you smell it. By the time you see it, you've already got a remediation job on your hands.

A moisture inspection now is a half-hour. Mold remediation later is days of work and thousands of dollars.

If you have an older home in Olympia, Lacey, Centralia, Shelton, or Chehalis — especially pre-1980s construction — this week is worth a look.

"IICRC certified" isn't just a badge - it means our techs are trained to the same water damage restoration standards used across the industry, not just shown the equipment and sent out. When you're choosing who handles your home, ask if the company is IICRC certified specifically. It's one of the clearest signs of real training behind the work.

As fall approaches, Pacific Northwest rain picks back up. Now's a good time to double check your roof, gutters, and any areas that had water issues last winter, before the wet season is back in full swing.

"While a water leak is not a fun experience the care, professionalism and detail to their work was amazing. Thank you Gideon and Bobby you have been so nice and patient and gave me a thorough update every visit on what was done and what to expect next. Joyce was also super helpful and quick to return calls when seeing everything up." Krista F.

Another before-and-after from the field. Every job is different, but our job is always the same: respond fast, extract the water, and get the space dried and stabilized so repairs can start without delay.

Moisture meters are one of the most important tools we carry - they tell us what's happening inside walls and under flooring that the naked eye can't see. It's how we know when a space is truly dry, not just dry to the touch.
