I've been writing about some pretty heavy topics lately, so this week I decided to take a lesson from my parents' Labrador, Katie.

We had the privilege of babysitting Katie for a few weeks, and I realized dogs might have life figured out better than we do. Nap when you're tired. Get excited about the little things. Spend time outside. Play. Cuddle. Repeat.

This post is a look at the life lessons I learned from Katie the dog.

Ten reminders from a dog who seems to have life figured out

One of the hardest lessons I'm learning is that supporting someone doesn't always mean fixing things for them.

Sometimes it just means listening, sitting in the discomfort, and trusting them to find their own way through it. That sounds simple, but it isn't always.

My latest Substack discusses what I'm learning about empathy, boundaries, and the difference between helping and carrying the pain.

Learning to support others without taking on their pain

Some days feel heavier than others. I think we can all resonate with that lately. We all have moments where we question things, pull inward, or just don’t have the energy to keep pretending we’re okay.

I wrote about those harder days, the emotional waves so many of us ride, and the small practices that help bring us back to ourselves.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or just “off” lately, this is for you.

Learning to sit with big emotions instead of pushing them away

This Memorial Day, I had the honor of speaking at the Military Women’s Memorial at Arlington Cemetery.

It was a deeply moving day spent honoring those who gave their lives in service to our country, while also reflecting on the many sacrifices carried throughout military service.

I shared my speech and reflections here. Thank you to all who have served, those still serving, and the families and loved ones who carry both pride and grief.

The other day, I caught myself saying yes to something simply because I was too exhausted to say no. Not because it was the right decision, but because saying no felt like it would take more energy than I had.

It surprised me and made me pause. Why does something as small as the word "no" feel so heavy?

We talk about boundaries all the time, but we rarely talk about what makes them so difficult to hold, especially when we are already depleted. There is often more going on beneath the surface than we realize.

I spent some time reflecting on that and pulled together a few thoughts. You can read more here:

Understanding why setting boundaries can feel harder than it should.

I am still soaking in all the love, laughter, connection, and reflection from our Anchored in Worth women’s retreat in Oak Island, we hosted earlier this month!

There is something really powerful about women coming together, sharing honestly, supporting each other, and creating space to simply breathe and reconnect with themselves. My heart is incredibly full.

I wrote a recap sharing some reflections from the weekend and a few personal takeaways around worth, boundaries, and learning to stop looking outside ourselves for validation.

So grateful for every woman who showed up and made the retreat what it was. Stay tuned… there will definitely be more retreats to come.

We all have a hero. Someone who showed up at a moment that mattered and changed something for us. Who reminded us who we are when things felt uncertain.

Captain Sue Bibeau is that for me. I recently had the chance to reconnect with her at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Women at the USCGA.

I shared more about it here:

The moments and people who shape us when it matters most

I went back to the Coast Guard Academy for the 50th anniversary of women attending. I expected a mix of emotions. I didn’t expect how powerful it would feel to simply sit in a space where nothing needed to be fixed.

No comparisons. No minimizing. No trying to make it better. Just women showing up, telling the truth, and being seen.

I wrote about what I experienced and why holding space is one of the most important things we can offer each other.

What happens when we stop fixing, comparing, and simply show up for each other

I am seeing burnout everywhere right now, and not just from work.

We keep telling individuals to manage it better, build resilience, practice self-care. But what happens when the system itself is the problem?

In this piece, I take a look at what is really driving burnout and what organizations can actually do about it.

Why it’s happening, what’s being missed, and what organizations can actually do about it

"Suck it up, Buttercup."

How many times have you been told that? Pushed through when you knew you probably shouldn’t have. Showing up to work sick, playing through something your body was clearly asking you to rest from, or convincing yourself it wasn’t that bad.

Most of us were taught early on to keep going no matter what. To be tough. To not fall behind. That message follows us into adulthood, and over time, it becomes automatic.

But I’ve been thinking more about what that is actually costing us.I wrote about the ways this shows up in our lives and why it might be time to rethink what we call strength....

The culture of pushing through is costing more than we admit
