Online! Check out this slick 20kw residential solar system with batteries for outage protection. The system was designed to replace most of the electric load at the home utilizing the sun, and also helps this young family get through unexpected outages. The new system is interconnected to the Norris Public Power District managed grid. This is fitting because it meets the vision of George Norris, the godfather of the Rural Electrification Act. This act, passed by Congress and signed by FDR during the Great Depression, brought distribution lines and electricity out to rural areas for the first time!

Norris also envisioned small distributed hydro systems powered by customer-owners playing a critical role in rural electrification and public power. We will never know if Norris understood the sun's potential to fill the role he envisioned for hydro all these years later, but with evolving advancements in solar technology, distributed solar has become the top choice for Nebraskans looking to do their part to help meet their financial, security, and environmental goals.

Last week GC ReVOLT President Graham Christensen testified at the Legislature in opposition to LB1003. LB1003, in its current form, would make it hard for Nebraska residents, farms, and businesses to go solar.

The intent of the bill was to protect consumers from a small handful of bad-acting solar development companies. GC ReVOLT acknowledges the damage that can be inflicted by unqualified solar companies, and also has concerns about predatory financing schemes. As a company who works hard to abide by high standards it hurts to see any Nebraskan have a bad experience with solar.

The bill will not be a priority bill this year, but there is an opportunity to build on the intent; consumer choice, but with consumer protection. Thanks Senator Glen Meyer for wanting to protect fellow Nebraskans, and thanks to the entire committee for the good questions.

Solar is becoming a more popular choice for more Nebraskans looking to shield themselves from inflating utility bill costs, outages, or for environmental reasons.

Online! The Maas Ranch is now powered up from the sun! This 20kw solar system will produce energy for the residences, the barn, and outbuildings. The location is fairly remote and is on the end of a utility line so the ranch can be slightly more susceptable to outages, therefore the solar array also comes with battery storage capabilities for outage protection in those more volatile moments.

Online! More farmers are cutting costs with solar as utilities continue to be faced with inflating energy costs.

Our latest development is a 20kw residential solar system and battery backup for Melanie Miller, a cattlewoman/reverend from Northeast Nebraska. This system will power most of her residential needs and provide an additional layer of security with outage protection for when the winds pick up again. 🌬️

Thanks to Melanie for her vision, to Freewave Energy Solutions for the clean development, and Elkhorn Rural PPD for the interconnection.

Note: This picture highlights Nebraska's future; a healthier and more balanced energy portfolio which in this case is powered by large scale renewables (see wind turbine in background) to serve the larger area, combined with small DG (distributed generation) which takes pressure off the grid by powering smaller loads like residences and businesses.

Nebraska Wind and Solar Conference Coverage:

"I'm from a farm family. What I learned as an ethos there, was don't waste anything," Josh Moenning with New Power Nebraska said. "If it's useful, use it. And we have (lots of) these renewable natural resources."

Roaring winds rapped on the windows of the Lincoln Cornhusker Hotel on Tuesday, just outside a conference dedicated to using that energy to power homes.

Congratulations to City Sprouts whom is the latest GC ReVOLT development. This project is an off-grid system that powers a geodesic dome which grows plants all year long.

Specific system functions include:
-Running fans inside the greenhouse in order to make the dome more functional in the hot summer months.
-Providing device charging stations for community members in need.
-Producing electricity for power tools, wifi booster, movie nights, and more!

Thanks to the City Sprouts team for their thoughtful vision and for being great to work with. Thanks to Freewave Energy for the pretty install. Also thanks to Omaha Public Power District and United Way of the Midlands for making possible the Greener Together Program which supports local nonprofits in increasing efficiency and delivering services in smarter, more sustainable ways. Add Nebraska to the list of red states being impacted by policies that leave us more energy insecure. As today's energy needs grow and old infastructure ages, renewable energy must be a big part of the future energy solution if we want affordable and reliable energy. Not to mention clean air and water.

The nation’s top four wind power states all lean Republican, including Iowa, where the president’s disdain is reverberating.

Despite voting for the BBB, which will phase out tax credits for solar and wind energy at the end of the year in favor of new subsidies for coal and biogas (collected from mega animal confinements), Congressman Don Bacon met with solar advocates including GC ReVOLT’s Edison McDonald.

If you want to take advantage of tax credits for switching to renewable energy like solar or wind, the time to act is now.

By Nebraska law, wind and solar projects are required to pay taxes into the counties where they are located.

Tax revenue recipients (paid by the company) include Public Schools, Fire/EMT, County Government, Townships, NRD's, and Community Colleges. These new revenues help keep rural counties competitive and take pressure off Nebraska landowners who are paying some of the highest property taxes in the nation.
