Sunday knowledge: the difference between honing and polishing.

These terms get used interchangeably, but they're completely different.

Honing = removing material using progressively finer diamond abrasives until you reach a smooth, matte finish. Used to remove scratches, etching, and surface damage.

Polishing = continuing the diamond process beyond honing to create a reflective, glossy finish. Brings out the stone's natural color and depth.

You can hone without polishing (matte look).
You cannot polish without honing first.

Saturday showcase: granite countertop reconditioning in Mesa.

8 years old. Never re-sealed after installation. Dull spots around the sink, white rings from glasses, inconsistent sheen.

Most people don't know this, but granite sealers don't last forever. They need reapplication every 1-3 years depending on usage and porosity.
