Goldman Sachs Research finds that although generative AI could displace 6% to 7% of the U.S. workforce, the impact will likely be temporary as new opportunities emerge to absorb displaced workers. Analyzing over 800 occupations, the report highlights higher risk in roles like programmers, accountants, and call center agents, while executives, radiologists, and pharmacists are less affected. Importantly, the study projects that once fully adopted, generative AI could increase labor productivity in developed markets by about 15%, suggesting that while short-term disruption is possible, the long-term outlook points to stronger economic growth and evolving job opportunities.
