Here is an example of a couple hundred years of bad farming practices. We examined 6 acres (outlined in red). Almost 3 acres (red hatched areas) are gullies that we have to keep at least 15' away from with septic drain fields. All the soil, from the erosion that caused the gullies, has settled into the hatched pink area, outside our area of examination. We did a boring in the current stream bed, only to find layers, and layers, of sand and clay. Piedmont streams, under proper conditions, would have gravel beds.
