💰 LET’S TALK TAX REFUNDS!

You have a choice in how your federal income tax withholding works throughout the year: you can adjust your withholding so you receive more money in each paycheck, or you can have more taxes withheld, which may contribute to a larger refund at tax time if you overpaid.

But remember—a tax refund isn’t guaranteed just because you worked and filed a return.

There are also refundable and partially refundable tax credits that may increase your refund, even when you didn’t have a large amount of federal taxes withheld. Depending on your eligibility, these may include:

✨ Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC/EIC)
✨ Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC)
✨ Other qualifying tax credits

Your income, filing status, dependents, withholding, and eligibility for certain credits all play a role in determining whether you owe taxes, break even, or receive a refund.

More in your paycheck now can mean less coming back later. More withheld throughout the year can mean more coming back at tax time.
